Dean Keates accused his players of not being streetwise as they slipped to defeat in a five-goal thriller at Southport.

The Red Dragons were looking to complete a festive double over their rivals after a 1-0 win at the Racecourse on Boxing Day.

Jordan White gave Wrexham the lead with his first goal for the club but they fell behind to efforts from Liam Nolan and Delial Brewster.

John Rooney smashed home a penalty for Wrexham on 66 minutes after Ryan Higgins fouled Gerry McDonough.

But Nolan’s late strike proved decisive as Wrexham slipped to 16th in the National League.

Keates said: “We shot ourselves in the foot three times.

“Possibly a draw would have been fair, but we were not streetwise enough and we didn’t weather the storm.

“All being well we will strengthen the squad in January, we need one or two additions this week.

“One player turned us down last week, but all being well, we will get one in this week.”
