Wales Get Ready for World Cup D-Day (Part One)

The Dragon Diary

The Dragon Diary

The moment of truth has arrived for Craig Bellamy.

Well, two moments, hopefully.

On Thursday night, Wales host Bosnia-Herzegovina in the World Cup play-off semi-final in Cardiff.

Win that game – and bookmakers DragonBet make Wales 10/11 favourites – and there will be a final showdown five days later against either Italy (most people’s tip) or Northern Ireland (the eyebrow-raising tip of Bellamy).

World Cup appearances don’t come around too often for Wales. There was nothing – zilch – between 1958 and 2022, so to make a second successive appearance in the finals would be an historic achievement for Bellamy and his players.

It may involve massive, ludicrous, rip-off pricing, aggressive American security and border force officials, and the awful prospect of wall-to-wall backslapping between Gianni Infantino and Donald Trump, but for Wales fans the prospect of going to another tournament finals is still the stuff of dreams.
