Paul Trollope admitted it was a no-brainer decision when he was given the chance to succeed Russell Slade as Cardiff City boss.
The ex-Wales midfielder was handed the reins by owner Vincent Tan on Wednesday having been Salde’s No 2 since February last year.
Trollope got the job despite the club being linked to the likes of Neil Warnock, Tim Sherwood and Neil Lennon.
The 43-year-old said: “It’s a good challenge and one I’m looking forward to getting started with.
“It’s a good club with a good fan base and nice facilities and stadium – and it was an absolute no-brainer to do the job.
“Every coach and manager has got their own philosophies, their own way of playing, handling players and preparation.
“I’ll bring my own style to that, and anyone who knows me knows that I’ve got clear ideas of the way things should be on and off the pitch at a football club.”
Trollope has taken over with Slade being moved into the Head of Football role – though with no input on the first-team – after City missed out on the Championship play-offs.
He added: “We have to be ambitious and create a belief within the club. The target is the play-offs and hopefully promotion.
“There are areas that need addressing within the team and we will be looking to add quality and also the right people.
“Having good knowledge of the existing players should help me.”
Trollope spent five years as manager of Bristol Rovers and is also a member of Chris Coleman’s Wales coaching team.
And he insisted he will continue in his role at this summer’s European Championship finals in France before having talks with Coleman about the future.
The ex-Derby and Fulham player added: “I don’t see it as any sort of hindrance for preparation for new season with Cardiff.
“I will discuss the viability of continuing with Wales after the Euros.”
