Oli McBurnie believes Swansea City can continue to climb the Championship table which he says is “the strangest thing I’ve seen in my life.”
The Swans striker led the line as his team recovered from a goal down to win 3-1 at home to Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night.
The victory catapulted the team seven places up the table from 15th to eighth and they are now only a point outside the play-off places.
“We were looking at some of the results and this league is just the strangest thing I have seen in my life,” said McBurnie.
“Teams you would put all your money on winning games, are getting beat by teams you would not give a chance to.
“I think now we are up to eighth and only a point of the play-offs, and to think just a few days ago there was a bit of doom and gloom at the weekend.
“It’s typical football, but if we can get on a run, we have games where we have to be positive. We know we are strong with the fans behind us and I wouldn’t want to be a team coming to the Liberty Stadium at the minute.”
The current tightness in the Championship means Swansea are just six points off top spot, presently occupied by Middlesbrough.
But they are also one of 11 clubs all within one victory of each other in the middle of the table.
McBurnie is optimistic they can keep their second-half form going, however, and was particularly impressed by the form of goalscorer Connor Roberts and man-of-the-match Daniel James.
“It’s fantastic to see the boys coming through and taking the chances. Connor has been different class this season and Dan, since he has come in, has been unplayable at times and no defender in this league can touch him.
Even though (those defenders) are experienced boys who have played a lot of games under their belt and they are running out of answers when it comes to Dan. I have played with him for three years and I know he is more than capable of doing that.
“I feel like a proud father watching him, it is exciting. We are a young group, we are growing and hopefully it is only going to get better.
“As for Connor, he is a freak. He is one of the only people I have ever met in football who enjoys pre-season. With all the running and stuff it’s just like it’s a game to him.
“I’ve never seen the guy tired in my life. Whether he is playing right-back or right wing, he is up and down the pitch and having those legs in the game is so helpful.”
