Swansea City are in talks to bring Crystal Palace midfielder Jairo Riedewald and Brentford’s Ryan Woods to the club, ahead of the Championship kick-off on Saturday.
Manager Graham Potter is keen to strengthen with both players with Jordan Ayew’s proposed move to Palace also likely to happen before the weekend.
Ayew wants to stay in the Premier League and a swap deal involving Riedewald has been discussed, with the Ghanaian striker valued at around £12m and the 21-year-old Dutchman at around £7m.
Riedewald was once a teenage prodigy at Ajax, but made only 12 Premier League appearances at Palace club last season following a move from Holland, with only four starts.
His attraction to the Swans is that he can play centre-back as well as in midfield, a considerable benefit with the club having already sold Kyle Bartley to West Brom and on the point of concluding a £20m deal to allow Alfie Mawson to join Fulham.
Ayew was the Swans’ top scorer last season with 11 goals and at one point appeared the man most likely to save them from relegation.
But his form dropped in the late stages, as did that of brother Andre who has already agreed a season-long loan with Fenerbahce.
The 26-year-old younger brother Jordan, who joined Swansea from Aston Villa in January 2017, has two years remaining on his contract at the Liberty Stadium.
Woods is another linking midfielder in the Leon Britton mould and is valued at £5m.
Woods began his career with Shrewsbury and made almost 100 appearances for them before joining Brentford in 2015.
The 24-year-old has continued to impress during 127 appearances for the Bees and was the club supporters’ player of the year last season.
