Ryan Giggs is expected to be named as the new Wales manager by the FAW on Monday afternoon.
The governing body have called a press conference for 2.00pm where it is understood the former Manchester United star will be unveiled as the successor to Chris Coleman.
Giggs was one of four candidates interviewed last week, along with Coleman’s former assistant Osian Roberts, Craig Bellamy and Mark Bowen.
FAW chiefs made their choice over the weekend and it appears Giggs – who had been the firm favourite for the position since Coleman stood down – has been chosen to lead his country for the next four years.
The choice is likely to be met with a mixed response by Wales supporters, some of whom have voiced their displeasure on social media at his likely appointment.
The 44-year-old Giggs made 64 appearances for Wales as a player between 1991 and 2007 and is renowned as one of the country’s greatest players.
But his senior managerial experience comprises of just four games in caretaker charge at Manchester United following the sacking of David Moyes in 2014, although he did work as Louis van Gaal’s assistant.
There is also a substantial number of fans who remain unconvinced by Giggs because of the number of friendly matches he missed during his playing days at Old Trafford.
But the FAW believe Giggs can win over those doubters, in the same way that both Coleman and his predecessor Gary Speed convinced some skeptical supporters.
The FAW wanted their new manager in place ahead of the Nations League draw in Lausanne on January 24 as they bid to bounce back from failing to qualify for this summer’s World Cup.
