Dean Keates admitted he was relieved as Wrexham won the battle of the spot-kicks to beat Boreham Wood.
Keates saw his side take the lead in the National League clash with an Anthony Barry penalty after Izale McLeod was fouled.
But the Essex outfit struck back from 12 yards Morgan Ferrier picked himself up to convert after being fouled by Mark Carrington.
But three minutes into injury-time John Rooney kept his cool to net from the spot to earn another vital three points.
And boss Keates said: ”It wasn’t good enough, even though we controlled the game, it wasn’t good enough.
“But the positive is we got a penalty in the last minute and we scored.
“Full credit to the lads and relieved to get the three points, but sometimes you don’t always get what you deserve.
“Last week we deserved three points, but this week I think Boreham Wood’s second half was enough to get them a point.
“I would rather we are missing chances and than not creating chances.
“So we’ll keep plugging away at the training ground, keep them crossing and keep doing finishing.
“I think we if can get one and then go get two, we might end up with few.
“As it stands we are getting one and we aren’t getting a second, so obviously, you always leave yourself open with that.”
The win took Wrexham into 12th spot on 42 points with a home game against relegation strugglers Guiseley next week.
Keates added: ”We’ve got 42 points and 50 points will put it to bed.
“It’s a big game next week as we’re at home and we want a better performance and the three points.
“We will have a good week training and go and get those three more points next week.”
