Talented playmaker Keyon Reffell has earned the admiration of Merthyr Town’s strikers this season.
The former Cardiff City youth player is the man who makes things tick in the Martyrs midfield as they press ahead with their promotion challenge.
Refill, from Ely in Cardiff, has scored seven goals in 53 appearances for Merthyr, but his major impact has been setting up chances for others.
“Kenyon is a talented guy,” says Merthyr manager Gavin Williams. “In all my years in football he is the most unselfish player I have ever met. The number of assists he has is frightening.
“Traylz (Ian Traylor), Kayne (McLaggon) and Pross (Ryan Prosser) all owe him a lot for the goals he has set up.”
Merthyr are fourth in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division and travel to play Cirencester Town in Gloucestershire this Saturday (3pm).
Reffell will again be given a creative role through the middle as the Martyrs aim to step up their bid to go up.
He has previously played for Kidderminster Harriers, Halesowen Town, Port Talbot Town, Carmarthen Town, Afan Lido plus Caerau Ely and signed for Merthyr a year ago.
Merthyr will again be without defender Curtis McDonald this weekend. He completes his two-match suspension and will be available for the home fixture against promotion rivals Hitchin Town on Saturday, January 14 (3pm).
While manager Williams and his Martyrs focus on this Saturday’s trip to Cirencester, one player has left the club.
Elliot Scotcher, who signed for Merthyr during the summer of 2015, has moved to Welsh Premier League Aberystwyth Town.
He established himself as a key player in the team, but has suffered from injuries.
Scotcher missed part of last season with a foot problem and has suffered a damaged shoulder playing against Biggleswade in October. He has not been able to regain his place in the team.
