Llandudno bid to stay Clear of Airbus in JD Cymru North

JD Cymru North

JD Cymru North

The top three teams in the Cymru North are all in action on Friday night

Leaders by two points with a game in hand, Llandudno will be strong favourites to secure their 12th straight home league win this season when hosting a Denbigh Town outfit they beat 2-1 away in November.

Second-place Airbus will target a sixth consecutive league victory over bottom side Ruthin Town, having whipped the Vale of Clwyd strugglers 4-0 at home three months ago.

Holywell Town, who lie third, will be out for revenge away to a Buckley Town team which beat the Wellmen 1-0 at the Bartons North Wales Stadium earlier this term.

Also on Friday, Flint Mountain pursue a fourth win on the bounce when they travel to Gresford Athletic, who were hammered 7-1 at Llandudno last weekend.

This pair drew four-apiece at Bastion Gardens early in the campaign.

Newtown will be anxious to earn a first league success in seven attempts when Guilsfield are the visitors to Latham Park.

The Robins sit fourth and Guils are just a place below.

Saturday's action largely involves teams at the lower end of the table.

Caersws hope to make it seven games without defeat when next-bottom Penrhyncoch land at the Recreation Ground in Powys.

Holyhead Hotspur will want to wipe out the memory of a 4-0 defeat at Brickfield Rangers in December when the Wrexham club travel to Holy Island for the return.

Both sides badly need a win. Brickie have not recorded a W in their last five, while Hotspur are victoryless in four.

Plenty of revenge missions are on the agenda this weekend, as on Saturday, Rhyl 1879 travel to Mold Alexandra surely out to put the record straight for a 3-0 loss to the Flintshire side at the Hops and Barley Community Stadium back in October.

FAW AMATEUR TROPHY

As well as occupying all four slots in the Welsh Cup semi-finals, North Wales also has five teams in the last eight of the national FAW Amateur Trophy.

On Friday evening, quadruple-chasing CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 welcomes a Llangefni Town side they have already defeated twice in the league this season: 2-0 away and 4-0 at the BCS.

Saturday's ties include another all-Ardal North West affair when league strugglers Penmaenmawr Phoenix host the only team to beat Bangor City 1876 in 33 matches this season - CPD Llannefydd.

There is a long trip in store for Prestatyn Town who have a big away test at Pontardawe Town of Ardal South West, where they sit sixth in the standings. Prestatyn occupy fifth position in Ardal North West.

ARDAL NORTH EAST

While the league table hints leaders Llanuwchllyn should comfortably beat lowly Llandrindod Wells at The Broadway on Saturday, recent clashes between the teams suggest it might be closer than many would predict.

Sion Tudor's table-toppers have not beaten The Spamen in their last three attempts and were held to a 1-1 draw by the fourth-bottom team in the previous meeting earlier this season.

Second-place Knighton Town will be hoping Llanuwchllyn slips up and that they can take advantage at mid-table Llanrhaeadr.

Bow Street will want to avoid a repeat of their 5-2 defeat at Cefn Albion back in October when the Ceredigion men host the Wrexham travellers on Saturday.

Rhos Aelwyd travel to Builth Wells seeking a third win of the season over The Bulls, whom they beat 4-1 at home in the league in August and 1-0 in the Ardal North Cup a month later.

Radnor Valley were surprise 4-0 home losers to Corwen last August, so the New Radnor side will aim for a much better result at the War Memorial Ground.

The signs look promising for The Goats, who are undefeated in six matches.

Llanfair United should have the edge over visitors Kerry, while Llangollen Town can expect a tough test against Dolgellau at Tower Field.

Penycae are without a victory in eight games, but should end that sequence at home to bottom side Lex XI, who are nonetheless showing signs of better things with promising new signings.

ARDAL NORTH WEST

Second-place Porthmadog, undefeated in six league tussles, should have the beating of Mynydd Isa at Y Traeth.

However, Port will be wary because the Flintshire side has won their last two and cannot be taken lightly by any means.

St Asaph City has managed just a single league win all season and that was against their opponents this Saturday - Bethesda Athletic.

Saints triumphed 2-0 at Roe Plas Meadows in November, but Pesda looks like a good shout for a revenge result at Parc Meurig with so much attacking power in their ranks.

Third-place NFA's superb run of 10 games without loss could come under threat when they host Llay Welfare, but with such a strong home record the Rhyl-based hopefuls should have the edge at Ffordd Derwen.

After suffering a 9-2 hammering in their last outing at CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 last weekend, Trearddur Bay badly need a tonic.
They are likely to find a recovery mission trip to CPD Y Felinheli tricky.
