Keates Wants Wrexham To Build On Victory Over Southport

Dean Keates has urged Wrexham to build on the Boxing Day win over Southport as they look to climb the National League table. Right-back Kai Edwards’ late winner gave the Red Dragons a 1-0 triumph for their first win in four league games.

Dean Keates has urged Wrexham to build on the Boxing Day win over Southport as they look to climb the National League table.

Right-back Kai Edwards’ late winner gave the Red Dragons a 1-0 triumph for their first win in four league games.

The win left Keates’ side in 15th spot ahead of the return game at Southport on New Year’s Day.

Keates said: ”It was the perfect result. Performance-wise it was not where we wanted to be, but I would say it was all about getting the result not about the performance.

“They worked hard, it was a bit scrappy, a bit nervy. But we got the goal and it was all about the three points in the end.

“It was needed, we lost four on the bounce, it is not nice and this club is not about losing, but something had to be addressed and we have got three points.

“The lads said in the week that they wanted to get the three points and push on and believe in themselves.

“It wasn’t a polished performance, it was just enough to get us over the line.

“All being well we can build on that next week and pick up another three points.”
