Harry Arter looks set to move Fulham after completing his one-season loan campaign with Cardiff City.
Injured Arter, who has a calf strain, will not feature for the Bluebirds in their final Premier League match at Manchester United on Sunday.
Fellow loan recruit Victor Camarasa is also highly unlikely to play due to a bruised thigh muscle, as both prepare to leave the club.
Arter appears poised to move to Fulham, rather than return to his parent club Bournemouth. The Republic of Ireland midfielder is wanted by their newly confirmed manager Scott Parker, who also happens to be Arter’s brother-in-law.
Arter has been commuting to Wales from his London base throughout this season and he is now keen to find a new club closer to home, with Fulham favourites to sign the 29-year-old who has played 25 Premier League matches this season.
It means Cardiff could well be facing Arter in the Championship next season as both Neil Warnock’s side and Parker’s Cottagers bid for an immediate return to the Premier League.
Camarasa is keen on remaining in the Premier League, rather than return to Spain to play for Real Betis.
Warnock said: “We thank Harry for all his efforts this season. Both he and Victor have been really good signings.
“We have been trying desperately to get Victor fit. But he’s got a nasty dead leg. I was gutted when he went off last week, but I’m sure he’s got a bright future ahead of him.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to inject some youth into his United line-up against Cardiff while club captain Antonio Valencia could make a farewell appearance.
The likes of Tahith Chong, Angel Gomes, and Mason Greenwood have trained with the senior team this week and may come in for United’s final fixture of the season, with doubts over Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial.
Valencia, who has played 338 times in his 10 years at United, is set to depart at Old Trafford at the end of an injury-hit campaign but is in line for his first appearance for the club since January, while Jesse Lingard could return after injury.
Warnock believes United have wasted a lot of money in recent years, and adds he is “not sure how much thought” has gone into some of their signings.
United won the Premier League in Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season in charge in 2013, but since his departure they have struggled, and this season cannot finish any higher than fifth place.
Warnock considers that while Manchester United will catch up with current leaders Manchester City and Liverpool in the future, it will not happen any time soon.
Asked whether he has any managerial advice for Solskjaer, Warnock said: “He’s not like me with the fact that he has got absolute top-quality players and he can buy top-quality players. So it’s a little bit different.
“He will be judged on the signings he makes and how much money they spend, because they have wasted a lot of money.
“I was listening to David Moyes last week at some stage… are they any better off than when David was there? And they’ve spent about £400m since then.
“You’ve got to have a structure where you try and sign the best players that can be available for your job to actually move the club forward. It does seem that over the past few years, I’m not sure how much thought has gone into some of the signings.
“They’ve got nothing to lose now, I think they’ve to generate that enthusiasm, verve, that you get with young players.”
Warnock, who has one year left on his current deal, wants assurances from the Cardiff hierarchy over their own player investment this summer before committing himself to the club.
