Hal Robson-Kanu and Jonny Williams will hope to rekindle their Euro 2016 heroics at new clubs after making moves on transfer deadline day.
Wales striker Robson-Kanu – who was a free agent after leaving Reading at the end of last season – has joined West Bromwich Albion on a two-year deal with an option for third.
Midfielder Williams – currently out injured – has gone on a season-long loan from Crystal Palace to Ipswich Town. It will be the fourth time that Williams has been loaned to the Championship club.
Robson-Kanu had been linked with Hull City after the career high water mark of his stunning goal against Belgium in June, but revealed he chose West Brom after being convinced by Wales teammate James Chester – even though Chester left Albion earlier this summer to join Hull.
“It’s good to have someone who knows about a new club to tell you about it and James spoke highly about Albion,” said the striker.
“And I’ve got no worries about my fitness. I’m a fit lad and I’ll be more than confident when called upon.
“It’s about the group, the squad being successful and I am really looking forward to playing my part.”
Robson-Kanu had to leave the Wales training camp and preparations for the opening World Cup qualifier against Moldova in order to complete the deal.
However, because he was a free agent, his signing did not need to be completed before Wednesday’s 11pm deadline.
“It’s a fantastic club and manager and I’m really happy to be here,” he added.
“I’m particularly pleased to be back in the Premier League. I am grateful for everything that Reading have done for me and I enjoyed my time there. But it’s great to take this step.”
The loan for Williams to Portman Road follows other temporary spells at the club in 2014 and 2015.
His first period at Ipswich was in February 2014, during which he scored the club’s goal of the season in the win over Derby, one of 13 appearances he made in a three-month stay.
Two further loan stays followed in 2014/15 but both were hindered by a groin injury.
The midfielder made 10 appearances on loan for Nottingham Forest last season before being recalled by Palace and he finished the campaign on loan at Milton Keynes, where he played 14 times.
Williams was named in the Wales squad for Euro 2016 and followed a start in their opening group game win over Slovakia with substitute appearances against England, Northern Ireland and Portugal in the semi-finals.
An ankle injury picked up in Palace’s last pre-season game has seen him miss the start of the season but he expects to be back in action at the start of October.
