Graham Potter has declared Swansea City’s pre-season tour as an encouraging work in progress after two 90-minute draws in Germany.
The Swans manager watched his team draw 1-1 with Genoa and then finish goalless against Magdeburg at the Interwetten Cup, but both matches were lost on penalties.
The Championship club now move on to Austria where they face Spanish club Eibar on Tuesday.
Teenagers Joel Asoro and Yan Dhanda both made first starts following summer moves to the Liberty Stadium.
Asora set up a goal for Oli McBurnie against Genoa, before Jefferson Montero made his first appearance for over a year against Magdeburg.
“We are building our fitness and also trying to get the players to understand what we are trying to do,” said Potter.
“Some things were good and some things weren’t, which is normal at this stage of the season. We now move on to Austria and the next stage of our preparation.”
Potter praised the contributions of both winger Asoro, signed from Sunderland, and former Liverpool midfielder Dhanda.
“I thought they both played with real enthusiasm. I enjoyed watching them play to be honest.
“Joel got the ball in one-v-one situations often and challenged his full-back a lot.
“You can see Yan plays with enthusiasm. He has that ability to play between the lines and in tight areas, which is very good.”
Dhanda, 19, was understood to have been signed as a likely U23 player, but Potter’s decision to play him in the friendlies against both Yeovil and Genoa suggests the former England U17 star could be earmarked for a first team role this season.
Dhanda was a Liverpool U23 regular but failed to make a first team breakthrough at Anfield and has admitted that was the motivation for his decision to leave.
“I could have stayed at Liverpool but I think coming to Swansea is the best thing for me,” he said.
“I was excited from the minute I knew Swansea were interested in signing me. I just wanted to get the deal done.
“I wasn’t really getting a chance at Liverpool and I wanted to come somewhere where I hope I will have a better chance to play in the first team. I want to show what I can do.
“Once I knew Swansea were interested, I felt the club would suit me. I have watched the football they have played over the years and I hope coming here will bring out the best in me.”
