Paul Clement began life as Swansea City manager by seeing his side snatch a dramatic victory at Crystal Palace to move off the bottom of the Premier League.
The ex-Derby boss had only been confirmed hours earlier but started watching from the stands at Selhurst Park before moving pitchside.
Clement saw substitute Angel Rangel score his first goal in over three years – since May 2013 – to give the Swans a vital 2-1 win over their fellow strugglers.
Centre-back Alfie Mawson has given his side a lead with his first Swans goal before ex-Cardiff City ace Wilfried Zaha looked to have snatched a point with a stunning late volley.
Clement’s first game in charge will be this weekend’s FA Cup third round tie at Hull City where he could come face-to-face with Gary Rowett who was also in the running for the Liberty Stadium job.
Rowett is favourite to take over at the Tigers – who are now bottom – after Mike Phelan was sacked last night.
The win gave stalwart Alan Curtis the perfect send off from his latest spell as caretaker manager having taken the reins following the sacking of Bob Bradley.
Curtis said of Clement: “He came down for some moral support, he made his presence felt at half-time, but there was not too much to say.
“We would have surprised a lot of people with our performance.
“It is a terrific result for us and a huge three points. The first-half performance, we were excellent and we could have gone in with more than the one goal.
“We have been accused of lacking character but we came back and won it and we deserved it.
“In training you see the players have the ability, it is just the confidence that has been lacking.
“Any team under Sam Allardyce will come on strongly, they have some terrific players. We had 24 hours more rest compared to them and that may have made a difference.”
