It is understood Republic of Ireland international Idah was in Swansea on Friday to undergo a medical after a fee of up to £7m was agreed between the clubs.
Idah’s absence from Celtic training ahead of Sunday’s derby with Rangers has only added fuel to speculation about his future.
Despite that, Rodgers made it clear that Celtic’s lack of attacking depth means any departure hinges on reinforcements arriving.
“There’s interest in Adam but obviously no-one can leave here unless we get players in to replace,” Rodgers said. “It’s as simple as that.
“There’s been negotiations and chat around it, but I have to have players in here before I can consider letting anyone go.”
The manager remains scarred by the January window, when Celtic sanctioned the late sale of Kyogo Furuhashi to Rennes but failed to bring in a replacement.
Rodgers said he would not allow the club to repeat that mistake.
“I just think it’s logical and it’s common sense,” he added. “We’re really light in that area of the field.
“And I’m pretty sure there would be a number of clubs that would want some of our players, but there’s absolutely no way we can move anyone out unless we have absolute guarantees that there’s going to be people to come in to replace.”
The Swans remain eager to strengthen their forward line, with head coach Alan Sheehan believed to have targeted Idah as competition for Zan Vipotnik, Liam Cullen and Bobby Wales.
Although he played down speculation when asked about Idah earlier in the week, Sheehan admitted he was aware of the striker’s qualities.
“He is a player I’m aware of obviously, an Irish international so yeah I do know him. A good player but I don’t want to comment on anybody that’s not our player,” Sheehan said.

Swansea have been searching for added depth up front, and Sheehan stressed the need for balance across his squad.
“We’re having a look at where where the balance is with what we have in the building and on what we want to improve depth-wise,” he explained.
“Because if we lose a player here or there, we look a bit lighter in some areas, so that’s something to to go through in the next couple of days.”
Idah joined Celtic from Norwich City in August 2024 for a fee reported to be around £9.5m.
He has struggled to make a consistent impact since arriving in Glasgow, leaving the club unlikely to recover their initial outlay if the Swansea deal is completed.

As well as targeting Idah, Swansea may see midfielder Ollie Cooper depart before the transfer window closes.
Cooper, who was left out of Craig Bellamy’s latest Wales squad for the World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan, has held talks with Sheehan about his future.
“I think that’s something that will come out in the next couple of days and see where Ollie is,” said Sheehan.
“He was involved the other night [against Plymouth Argyle] and in league games as well, so I think for somebody like Ollie he does need to be playing regularly, and to go and have an impact on that World Cup squad is something that I’ve spoken about with him.
“We’ve had open dialogue but let’s see what happens in the next couple of days if he’s still here. If he goes he’ll be treated consistently by us.”
