Swansea City have made sure the momentum they gained at the end of last season under Alan Sheehan has rolled into this campaign.

Ben Cabango believes the buzz is back at Swansea City.

The Wales defender reckons his team’s 1-0 victory over Sheffield United at the weekend has only added to the sense of momentum and excitement starting to perculate through the club.

Cabango – now one of the club’s longest serving players at the age of only 25 – has highlighted the team’s growing resilience under head coach Alan Sheehan and the global interest generated by the involvement of rap star Snoop Dogg and Croatian legend Luka Modrić as the catalysts for optimism.

Former Real Madrid star Modric joined Swansea as an investor and co-owner back in April, before Snoop Dogg followed him last month.

The Swans battled to three points thanks to Ronald’s second-half finish at the Swansea.com Stadium, continuing their strong run at home under Sheehan.

But for Cabango, the bigger picture is that Swansea look united, confident, and surrounded by a wave of positivity on and off the pitch.

"I feel like for a long time, this is the most buzz we've had around Swansea in the dressing room, around the fans," he said.

"Everyone's positive around this place and there's a bit of expectation on us now, which is really good.

“So, we're just pushing each other and hopefully we can make good things out of the season."

Cabango believes Sheehan is making a big impact, having made the team more structured and simplified with a more streamlined attacking style.

They still lack finishing power up front – as they converted pressure into few genuine chances – but the Swans captain says the balance between attacking intent and defensive stability is becoming a hallmark of Sheehan’s tenure.

"I think our home games we've had since he's been in charge, we have had six wins and one draw in the eight games, so it's been solid defensively," Cabango noted.

"We're always looking like we're going to score in those games and we're looking solid defensively so it's obviously a good balance and we're always on the front foot and aggressive. I bet we're a hard team to play against."

The Cardiff-born centre-back admitted the scoreline could have been more comfortable given the chances created.

But he was quick to stress that the performances are improving week by week as a number of new arrivals adapt to their surroundings.

"Obviously there's been a lot of players being brought in now and we're still just learning about each other," he said.

"I feel like we created so many chances and we could have scored a lot more, but it's good that we're getting in positions and then the goals will start to come.

"It's not only just about the result. It's about the performance.

"I feel like from the first minute we were on the front foot, aggressive, and we were dominant. We were breaking through them a lot of times and we created a lot of chances which could have been goals.

“To put a performance like that against a quality side is such a good feeling for us and it gives us real confidence.

“You could feel the energy from the fans in the stadium, the level of backing they give us. We have had a good home record, and they pushed us on to get another win.

“If we carry on performing like that then hopefully we can give them plenty to shout about.”

The victory has lifted Swansea to 15th in the early season table, with their next fixture at home to Watford on Saturday.
