Aaron Ramsey has not recovered to make the Wales squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Croatia and Hungary – but Ethan Ampadu has been included. Both players were expected to be missing when Ryan Giggs named his group for the double header away trip, but Ampadu is in a 28-man squad despite a recent back injury.
Golden oldie Gareth Bale has vowed to help polish the new gems as Wales aim to sparkle again in the European Championships. Almost three years after being the jewel in the crown for Chris Coleman’s team at Euro 2016, Bale is still the most precious piece in the new line-up under Ryan Giggs. But as Wales prepare to take on Slovakia tonight in their opening qualifier for Euro 2020, the Real Madrid star – not yet even 30 – is the self-confessed “oldie” compared to the new crops of youngsters who will provide vital support.

Aaron Ramsey will join Juventus in a deal reportedly worth £36million bringing to an end his 10-year spell with Arsenal. The former Cardiff City midfielder had been in talks with several of Europe’s top clubs including Paris St-Germain and Bayern Munich. But, according to reports in Italy, Ramsey has agreed to join the Serie A giants at the end of this season in a five-year deal and will become a team-mate of Cristiano Ronaldo. Ramsey is available on a free transfer when his contract ends in June and had been free to talks to clubs as a free agent. The 28-year-old will reputedly earn £140,000 a week at Juventus, who have won the league title for the past seven seasons and are nine points clear this campaign. It had become clear that Ramsey would be leaving the Gunners, the club he joined in a near £5million deal from boyhood club Cardiff in 2008 after he had played in the Bluebirds’ FA Cup Final defeat to Portsmouth. The Caerphilly-born player has since won three FA Cup with his 52 goals including the winner in the 2014 and 2017 finals.

Ryan Giggs has told Wales it is time to prove they are much more than a two-man team. The Wales manager will send his country into Nations League duty against the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday night, without their two biggest influencers – Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey. It will be the first time neither has played in a competitive fixture since Ramsey made his debut in 2008 and the omens in Dublin are not encouraging.

Aaron Ramsey was the major absentee as Ryan Giggs named his first Wales squad since taking over from Chris Coleman. The Arsenal midfielder will miss next week’s China Cup as he is having a ‘small procedure’ during the international break.
Paul Clement remains upbeat about Swansea City’s ability to move away from the relegation zone, despite their defeat at Arsenal. The Swans lost 2-1 after Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey struck the winner and the visitors could now find themselves in the bottom three on Sunday if Everton avoid defeat at Leicester. But with a key home game next when Brighton come to the Liberty Stadium, Clement insisted there was sufficient in the display against the Gunners – where Swansea took the lead – for him to be positive.
