Paul Clement Says Gylfi Sigurdsson Is A Swan "At The Moment" But Hints At Move

Paul Clement has dropped a heavy hint that Gylfi Sigurdsson will soon be leaving Swansea City – but only if the price is right. The Swans head coach has confirmed there has been significant interest in the Icelandic midfielder, who is reported to have been valued at £50m by the club. Clement has offered no guarantees that arguably the most important player in his squad will be under his charge for the coming season and his language suggests he is preparing for Everton to follow up their long-term interest by lodging a firm bid.

Jayne Ludlow Says Dutch Destruction Will Improve Wales' World Cup Resolve

Jayne Ludlow insists her Wales team will be a tough nut to crack in their forthcoming World Cup campaign – despite their thrashing by the Netherlands. The Wales women were taught a harsh lesson in Rotterdam at the weekend as the Dutch warmed-up for the European Championships with a 5-0 romp. Wales arrived buoyed by a 2-1 win over European Championship finalists Portugal last month, but with four regular starters missing from their line-up it was always going to be a difficult task.

Some Conclusions To Draw And Share From A Drawn And Shared Lions Series

The Lions series is over. So who won? Geraint Powell believes victory went to a few worth honourable mention – players, coaches and fans who respect tradition, refs with empathy, Kieran Read, Steve Hansen, Sam Warburton, Jonathan Davies and the cemented reputation of Warren Gatland. It may have felt flat at full-time – like “kissing your sister” as All Blacks head coach Steve Hansen put it – but a 15-15 drawn match and a drawn Test series was probably a fair overall result and certainly what the under pressure British and Irish Lions concept required. And what World Rugby required, if we are frank, such has become the unhealthy dominance of New Zealand in the last decade as South Africa, Australia and France have fallen away from their traditional high standards for very differing reasons.

Thunder Roll Sends Warriors To Defeat But No Disgrace

South Wales Warriors 0 – Sussex Thunder 17 The play-off bound Sussex Thunder struck early on their visit to South Wales, but never quite managed to rumble the winless Warriors. Though the game finished with the hosts still searching for a first win this season, the undefeated Thunder, who sealed the division championship a week earlier, were made to work hard for victory in this Saturday evening clash. It looked as if it would be a long night for the Warriors, who suffered a heavy defeat in their last fixture away at the Oxford Saints, when the Thunder scored on just the second play of the game.

Warren Gatland Wants Lions v All Blacks Autumn Decider

Warren Gatland says he would relish a British and Irish Lions rematch with New Zealand at Twickenham in November. The Lions held New Zealand 15-15 at Eden Park on Saturday to end the series one-all, with the tourists drawing just their second series in history. Gatland’s men rallied from their 30-15 first Test defeat to triumph 24-21 in Wellington in the second encounter, and edged to a gritty draw in Auckland to complete the trio of All Blacks clashes.

Glamorgan Snared In T20 Opener As Shahid Afridi Spins His Web

A partnership of 95 between Lewis McManus and George Bailey, and a spell of 4 for 20 in four overs by leg-spinner Shahid Afridi, were enough to give Hampshire the perfect start to their T20 Blast campaign, as they beat Glamorgan at Cardiff by 22 runs. Skipper James Vince got Hampshire off to a flying Friday night start, sharing an opening stand of 52 with Rilee Rossouw, with the pair hitting ten fours in the first three overs. But Michael Hogan finally broke the partnership as keeper Chris Cooke claimed the catch off the edge of Vince’s bat, the batsman having hit 31 from 15 balls, including seven fours.

Forget Eden Park Showdown, The Real Result Of This Lions Tour Has Been The Roar Of Rugby Heritage

The All Blacks have gone from settled to scrambled, the Lions from flakey to formidable, but Geraint Powell says it will still need something bigger than the kitchen sink to floor the most ruthless team in rugby. The British and Irish Lions tour comes down to a Test decider on Saturday, tied at 1-1 after a second Test at Wellington overshadowed by the 25th minute dismissal of New Zealand centre Sonny Bill Williams as the Lions secured a hard fought 24-21 win. An unchanged Lions 23 will now take on an All Blacks team ringing further changes to cope with injuries and suspension.

The Lions Have The Form, The Fans, The Wisdom, And The Ref . . . But They Will Not Have The Glory

There is only one thing more ruthlessly determined and obsessively motivated than an All Black, argues Robin Davey. That’s a wounded All Black. Expect the record book writers to remain under-employed. History beckons for the British and Irish Lions on Saturday when they aim to become the first in the professional age, and the first for 46 years, to win a Test series in New Zealand. And the venue is the iconic Eden Park in Auckland where the world champion All Blacks have not lost since 1994. Furthermore, they haven’t lost a three-Test series at home since going down to Australia in 1986.

Warren Gatland Tells His Lions To Seize The Day

Warren Gatland has urged his side to seize immortality after naming an unchanged Lions squad for Saturday’s decisive final Test against New Zealand in Auckland. A first series win over the All Blacks since 1971 beckons after the Lions restored parity in the three-match showdown with a 24-21 victory over the world champions in Wellington on Saturday. Gatland cited the need to hand the players who had dragged the Lions level the opportunity to administer the knockout blow at Eden Park, where New Zealand have not lost a Test match since 1994.

There Was A Time When A 10-wicket Drubbing Involving Gloucestershire Was A Good Thing

History often repeats itself in sport, but for Glamorgan it is rarely in the form of repeat success. Richard Thomas finds echoes of the past in the county’s troubles this week, but with the boot firmly on the other foot. Another dip into the archives this week and a revisit to another significant match during Glamorgan’s County Championship-winning season of 1997. But though the result was totally different, Glamorgan’s match with Gloucestershire two decades ago had some uncanny symmetry with the county’s spectacular defeat this week. Exactly 20 years on: the same sides, a 10-wicket win and all played out on an out-ground.

South Wales Warriors Aiming For Super Saturday Against The Thunder

The South Wales Warriors are breaking with tradition by playing on a Sunday. But Twm Owen wonders whether or not they can break another recent habit – losing. In America the tradition of Sunday afternoons being for NFL football is followed with almost religious observance. It is perhaps no surprise that with the game in Britain, and Wales, owing its existence to the pioneering coverage of the NFL on Channel 4/S4C in the 1980s that the Sabbath is also the day set aside for most ‘Britball’ fixtures.
