Here’s The New Wales Kit – Red With “Contour Lines”

Wales have a new kit. It’s red. So, that’s the fashionistas sorted. And young traditionalists don’t need to worry, either, because it’s still got a great big sponsors’ logo on the chest. Dai Sport reckons it looks okay – like a Wales rugby jersey should look. We don’t begin to understand the marketing guff (something about hills on your shoulders) but we’ve patriotically reproduced the WRU press release, anyway, for anyone who can work it out. Oh, and the replica is 65 quid. The new Wales kit for the next two seasons of international rugby was revealed for the first time today by global sports performance and innovation brand Under Armour. Inspired by the Welsh national anthem ‘Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau’ (Land of my Fathers), Under Armour’s new design is intrinsically linked to the Welsh landscape, using the topography of unique areas around the country mapped out on the shoulders with subtle stitching.

Scarlets’ Steff Evans Poised To Fill George North Void

Steff Evans is likely to be the beneficiary from George North’s latest injury which has ruled the Northampton wing out of Wales’ autumn series. Scarlets wing Evans has been knocking on the international door for 12 months, but had to wait until the summer before winning his first caps against Tonga and Samoa whilst North was on Lions duty. With North now due to be ruled out for the whole of November due to a knee problem, then 23-year-old Evans will be the favourite to take one of the wing spots for the Tests against Australia, Georgia, New Zealand and South Africa, with Liam Williams and Leigh Halfpenny likely to fill the other back three positions.

Warren Gatland Says Lions Critic Sean O’Brien Was ‘In The Shape Of His Life’

Warren Gatland has defended his Lions training methods and claimed he helped get Sean O’Brien into the “best shape of his life”. The Wales coach has responded for the first time to criticism from Ireland and Lions flanker O’Brien that training routines were overdone in the build-up to the first Test against New Zealand this summer and that the tourists should have gone on to win rather than draw the series.

Cardiff Arms Park: Time To Re-Divide The Slice Of The Pie

The future of Cardiff Arms Park is still less clear than the contents of a Clark’s Pie. Rob Cole peers under the crust and says there is plenty to chew on, but one side has to be prepared to swallow hard. Ever since Richard Holland took over as the chief executive at Cardiff Blues just over six years ago his in-tray has been dominated by one issue – the re-development of Cardiff Arms Park. Seen as the way to inject much needed cash into the ailing Blues, plans for a £150m regeneration scheme cannot move forward unless the Cardiff Athletic Club agrees to assign the lease on the Arms Park to the Blues for the next 150 years.

Warren Gatland Says Rhys Webb Has Big Call To Make – Cash Or Caps

Wales coach Warren Gatland believes Rhys Webb may decide to back out of his move to France in order to keep playing for Wales. Webb will become the biggest casualty of the Welsh Rugby Union’s new selection policy which will permit players outside of Wales, only if they have 60 caps or are already there under contract. The change, announced on Monday, means Webb will no longer be eligible for selection if he goes ahead with his planned move from the Ospreys to Toulon as he only has 28 caps.

Evans Tipped For Home Glory By Welsh Rally Legend Llewellin

Wales’s most successful rally driver, David Llewellin, is tipping his fellow countryman Elfyn Evans for great success – and even an historic victory – on this month’s eagerly-awaited Dayinsure Wales Rally GB (26-29 October). Although a number of Welsh co-drivers have won Britain’s classic round of the FIA World Rally Championship, no Welsh driver has ever stood on the podium let alone won their home event.

Tam’s The Man To Cross Bridge To Chelsea Promised Land

Tammy Abraham will need to confound recent trends and statistics if he is ever to become a Chelsea regular, but his Swansea teammate Leon Britton believes the striker can re-write history. All the evidence shows that home-grown talent loaned out from Stamford Bridge generally find they knock but are not gained entry when they bid to make the Premier League champions’ first team.
