Wales Resist Jamie Roberts U-Turn And Go With Williams Pair To Unlock The All Blacks

Wales have resisted the temptation to bring back Jamie Roberts to have a bash at the All Blacks on Saturday. Instead, coach Warren Gatland has paired Owen Williams with Scott Williams in the centre as he bids to unpick New Zealand’s defences and earn the reward of a first Test victory against them for 64 years. Having initially been left out, former Lion Roberts was brought back into the Wales squad when Jonathan Davies suffered a foot injury in the defeat to Australia.

Have You Seen These Jerseys? Clem Thomas’ Family Hunt For Missing Memorabilia

A search has begun for the missing rugby jerseys that belonged to Clem Thomas, the former Wales forward who was instrumental in the last victory over the All Blacks 64 years ago. Thomas – whose cross-kick famously led to Ken Jones’ try that enabled Wales to beat New Zealand in 1953 – died in 1996. Now, in connection with a new book written by his son Chris, a hunt has been launched for Thomas’s collection of international shirts that went missing in New Zealand in 1993.

George North Sparks Regions’ Scramble As Scarlets, Dragons, Ospreys And Cardiff Blues Bid For Returning Wales Wing

George North will leave Northampton at the end of this season and return to Wales on a national dual contract, with the Dragons believing they can tempt him to Rodney Parade. The Lions wing, who has won 69 Wales caps and scored 30 tries, has agreed a deal from next term, the Welsh Rugby Union have announced. North has been one of the biggest names in the European game over recent years and his tally of caps means he could have chosen to stay in English rugby, or moved to France, and still have been eligible for Wales selection as he is comfortably above the new 60-cap threshold.

Ross Moriarty Gets The Party Started For Welsh Rugby’s New Noisy Neighbours

It used to be quiet at sleepy Rodney Parade. The only sounds often heard would be groaning fans or the starting of engines in the car park as players made their escape to elsewhere. But Robin Davey – who first revealed in his Dai Sport column that the region were keen to sign Ross Moriarty – says the noisy neighbours are now making the other three regions turn their heads eastwards. The wheel really has turned the full circle – or the worm has turned – as the Dragons emerge from the shadows to become the most talked about Welsh region. It all began with the Welsh Rugby Union buying Rodney Parade, taking over the Dragons, installing a new hybrid pitch and making considerable ground improvements.

Wales Told All Blacks Have Wobbled . . . But You Missed It

Wales have been warned by All Blacks flanker Sam Cane that New Zealand’s vulnerability on their short tour ended at Murrayfield. The Kiwis were wobbling last week against Scotland as their lead was whittled down to five points in an unconvincing 22-17 victory. That has prompted thoughts that perhaps a long year that has included a series against the Lions has started to create stresses and cracks opponents can now exploit.

Bruce Tasker Basks In Medal Triumph As Welshman Takes Bronze

Welsh bobsleigher Bruce Tasker was back on the World Cup podium last weekend after helping the British 4-man team claim bronze at the World Cup race in Park City, Utah, USA. Tasker was joined by pilot Brad Hall, Joel Fearon and Greg Cackett in becoming Britain’s first Bobsleigh World Cup medalists since John Jackson won silver alongside Tasker, Fearon and Stu Benson in Lake Placid in December, 2013. Before that, you had to go back to 1997 to find another British Men’s Bobsleigh medal on the World Cup circuit, with that success coming when Sean Ollson guided GB to bronze in La Plagne the season before he won the same colour medal at the Nagano Olympics.

A stunning strike from Ryan Brobbel was enough for The New Saints to reach their fourth League Cup final in as many years after they saw off Connah’s Quay at the Deeside Stadium. The All Blacks Are Tired, Jaded, Weakened . . . But Don’t Bet The House On Red

So, here we go again. Can Wales beat the All Blacks this week? No-one under pensionable age can remember what victory over New Zealand feels like. Geraint Powell looks at the fixture’s history and says the tourists are more vulnerable than ever. Just don’t part with a lot of money. Would you, as a Welsh rugby fan, be happy to lose to Australia, Georgia and South Africa in order to beat New Zealand? That has been an oft asked question ahead of this November campaign.  I think it is fair to say that many readily answered “yes”.  Unfortunately, that is not how beating the All Blacks actually works in practice.  If you are unable to beat Georgia, and a weakened Welsh side came perilously close to being held to a draw on Saturday, the odds on beating the All Blacks are not great.
