Coach Wayne Pivac has named a fresh front row for the derby clash with Rob Evans and Ken Owens also making a return to the starting XV.

Bernard Jackman Says Dragons Kid Taine Basham Has The X-Factor

Dragons coach Bernard Jackman has likened 18-year-old Taine Basham to Justin Tipuric as the teenager prepares to make his debut against the Scarlets in Friday night. Basham will be handed a testing first appearance against the Guinness Pro14 champions in Llanelli as the visitors continue to deal with a lengthy injury list. But the Wales U18s forward – who has been playing for Cross Keys in the Principality Premiership for most of the season – has been backed by Jackman to handle his step up.

Warren Gatland Braced For Bad News After Derby Dogfights

Dan Lydiate and Hallam Amos have handed Wales head coach Warren Gatland a few injury headaches ahead of the NatWest Six Nations campaign next month. Both were victims of the full-blooded Welsh regional derbies over the Christmas period. The 23-year-old Amos injured his ankle in the Dragons’ Boxing Day loss to Cardiff Blues, while the 30-year-old Lydiate picked up a bicep problem in the Ospreys’ New Years Day triumph at Rodney Parade. “We’re just waiting to see if we can rehab the injury or decided if Hallam will need an operation. We’re just liaising with the Wales medics to see what’s the best course of treatment – five or six weeks is the pessimistic outlook,” said Dragons coach Bernard Jackman.

The Secrets To Renato Sanches’ Improvement – Instructions In English From A Portuguese

Carlos Carvalhal believes his words of wisdom – delivered in English – are finally helping to tap the potential of his fellow Portuguese star Renato Sanches. Swansea City manager Carvalhal witnessed another improved performance from Sanches, despite the club suffering another damaging defeat at home to Tottenham on Tuesday night as they lost 2-0 – a result which leaves them at the bottom of the Premier League and four points from safety. But Sanches was at the heart of most of the Swans’ better periods and his energy and drive from midfield in the second-half almost sparked a recovery before Dele Alli’s late goal – doubling the Spurs lead given by former Swans striker Fernando Llorente – killed off those hopes.

Former Swansea City Supporters Trust Chairman Hits Back At Selling Shareholders

Former Swansea City Supporters Trust chairman Phil Sumbler has accused Rob Davies of trying to de-stabilise the club following his attack on the fans organisation. In an interview with Dai Sport on New Year’s Day, ex-shareholder Davies criticised the Trust for “trying to break the club” and suggested the Swans could soon go the way of Blackburn Rovers under controversial owners, Venky’s unless fans backed current chairman Huw Jenkins. But Sumbler – who stood down from the Supporters Trust six weeks ago and has since formed the Swansea City Supporters Alliance – has rejected Davies’s claims.

Ieuan Thomas Sees In The New Year In Winning Style

World Championships steeplechaser Ieuan Thomas picked up his second Nos Galan Road Race title as he won the New Year’s Eve Race in Mountain Ash. Beaten by two seconds in a sprint finish by Swansea Harrier Kristian Jones in 2016, the Commonwealth Games bound Thomas left nothing to chance this time as he hit the front in the closing stages of the 5k race and took the tape in 14 min, 29 sec. That kept him three seconds clear of fellow Cardiff AAC athlete Matt Clowes and a further second ahead of reigning champion Jones. Conditions made for a slower race than the previous year’s record time of 14:11 by Jones.

Carlos Carvalhal Bids To Make Swans History . . . And Convince The 98%

Carlos Carvalhal is already playing the percentages pretty well in his first week in charge at Swansea City. In last Thursday’s press conference after being confirmed as the Swans’ fifth manager in two years, Carvalhal said he believed that if you asked 100 people if the club will be relegated at the end of the season then all 100 would agree. After winning his opening game 2-1 win at Watford on Saturday he reckoned that number might have dropped to 98. If they can back up that win at Vicarage Road with a first win over Spurs in the Premier League then the believers might come flooding back.
