Having missed out on Delhi in 2010, Glasgow in 2014 and initially been told she wasn’t going to Australia, the hurdler is still in shock after being named in the team of 21 to take part in the athletics programme at the multi-sport event.

There is nothing fishy about Swansea City’s incredible revival according to Ki Sung-Yueng, the Korean who reeled in the winner in the 1-0 victory over Burnley at the weekend. Manager Carlos Carvalhal continues with his sea-based images of lobsters, sardines, beachside barbeques and swimming against the tide, but his Korean midfielder reckons the Portuguese boss is more salt of the earth than salt water. After hammering home an 81st minute goal to make it 14 priceless Premier League points in just seven games under Carvalhal, Ki revealed the Swans surge is based on their manager’s good tactics and good humour.
Gareth Anscombe believes the denial of his disputed try at Twickenham was not the crucial factor in Wales’ defeat to England. The Cardiff Blues outside-half is convinced his effort should have stood and that he grounded the ball in the first-half of the Six Nations clash. But Anscombe also insists the incident was less significant than the fact that Wales did not seize further opportunities before going down 12-6.

Wales coach Warren Gatland says a “terrible mistake” by the television match official cost his side the chance of an upset victory over England at Twickenham. England edged a gripping Six Nations arm wrestle 12-6 on a raw afternoon but things could have been different had Wales fullback Gareth Anscombe’s try been allowed to stand before the interval. After two Jonny May tries had given England a 12-0 lead, Anscombe appeared to have marginally won a race with Anthony Watson to touch down a loose ball over the England line.
Carlos Carvalhal says his Swansea City team have started swimming for the shoreline – buoyed by 14 points in seven matches under his remarkable transformation. The Portuguese manager loves his marine life metaphors – whether about swimming, fishing or eating seafood – almost as much as he enjoys collecting victories on the football field. His 1-0 win at home to Burnley was his fourth in the Premier League and means he can now boast some remarkable statistics.

If the Koreans win a medal in bobsleigh at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, then Wales will have very good reason to join in the celebrations. Until his untimely death from cancer at the age of 68, Swansea-born Gomer Lloyd had been masterminding the bobsleigh programme for the host nation of his year’s winter Games. It was a role in which he was enjoying some success and to which he was well suited. A four-time Olympian bobsleigh competitor for Great Britain, he went to a further eight Games as a coach and was involved with teams from Canada, Italy, Monaco, Russia, Great Britain as well as South Korea.

Jason Strange’s youngsters were well beaten by five tries to two, but former Newcastle Falcons coach Bates insisted: “It was a pretty comprehensive win, but there is still more to come. “I think we probably could have created more, we could have been more dominant.
Courtney Lawes has joined England coach Eddie Jones in trying to unsettle Rhys Patchell ahead of his Twickenham test of nerve. England second row Lawes has weighed in to add to the doubts Jones expressed over Patchell in another move that appears designed to unsettle the Wales No.10. Its success or otherwise will be seen on Saturday evening but it suggests England are more fixated on the opposition than at any time during three seasons in the Six Nations under Jones.
Neil Warnock was furious after referee Keith Stroud denied Cardiff City the win at Millwall they deserved. The official disallowed a Sol Bamba effort when it clearly should have been given and said Warnock after the 1-1 draw: “It is appalling at this level. Sol is going to shoot and then he blows. “I don’t […]
