Alfie Mawson Praises Nine-Point Swing To The Carvalhal Party

Alfie Mawson admits he cannot quite put his finger on the Carlos Carvalhal effect – but he will settle for simply reaping the benefit. The Swansea City defender has paid a glowing tribute to his manager who has steered the club to a position where they are now four points clear of the Premier League relegation zone. When Carvalhal arrived in late December, the club were five points adrift of safety. In political terms, that’s a nine-point swing to the Carvalhal Party.

Wales Move Into Second As Italy Prove True To Form

It wasn’t always pretty, it was never perfect, but Wales’ 38-14 win over Italy was good enough to move them up into second place in the NatWest 6 Nations and put them on course for a runners-up finish next weekend. All they have to do is keep the French juggernaut at bay at the Principality Stadium with any kind of victory and they will be guaranteed to finish behind Ireland. Not a bad turn-around from last year’s fifth place, and a position that would earn them almost £2m more.

Carlos Carvalhal Is Out For Points Rather Than Revenge At Huddersfield

Carlos Carvalhal insists revenge will not be the spur when he takes his Swansea City team to Huddersfield. The Swans manager has personal and painful history against the Yorkshire club who have defied predictions to have a buoyant first season in the Premier League. It was last season that Carvalhal’s Sheffield Wednesday ran into David Wagner’s Terriers in the Championship play-offs, before Huddersfield edged the tie on penalties on their way to the Premier League.

Jason Strange Says Wales U20s Were Suckered In The Mud

Wales U20s coach Jason Strange branded his team “naïve” after they lost for the first time to Italy on Friday night. The Italians deservedly earned an 18-7 victory at Colwyn Bay to give them their first win over Wales in 20 attempts, as they mastered the heavy conditions with a powerful forward performance their host could not match. Strange admitted: “I thought we were quite naïve with the way we played in the conditions.

It’s Adios For Evans At Rally Mexico

Elfyn Evans has been forced to withdraw from Rally Mexico, after his co-driver, Daniel Barritt, was taken to hospital with suspected concussion, following their sixth gear high-speed roll on stage four. It’s a bitterly disappointing blow for the 29-year old works Ford driver, who, by his own admission, has had a bad start to the 2018 FIA World Rally Championship. A puncture on both the Monte Carlo and Swedish rallies saw Evans finish sixth and 14th respectively, and he was aiming to kick start his 2018 campaign with a good result in Mexico – a gravel event he’s always gone well on.

Mexican Roll Dents Evans’ Hopes

Elfyn Evans’ hopes of winning Rally Mexico have suffered a major setback, after he rolled his works M-Sport Ford Fiesta RS WRC on stage four. The 29-year old Dolgellau ace had started round three of the FIA World Rally Championship well – and had just set the second fastest time on SS3 (the El Chocolate stage which, at 19.5 miles, is the longest of the rally). That put Evans up to third place overall, a mere 15.2 seconds behind rally leader, Spaniard Dani Sordo (Hyundai). Sadly, Evans lost over two minutes on the following stage, after a high-speed accident.
