Evans Finishes A Flying Fifth In France

Elfyn Evans and Phil Mills have triumphed in the face of adversity at the Tour de Corse – finishing one of the most technical Tarmac rounds of the FIA World Rally Championship in a flying fifth position. The Welsh pairing teamed up at short notice to give Evans’ regular co-driver, Daniel Barritt, more time to recuperate from their Rally Mexico accident. In stepped 54-year old Mills, the 2003 world champion, who hadn’t contested a WRC event for eight years, but who knows Evans’ pacenote system well. The new pairing had just six runs through shakedown to perfect their relationship inside the M-Sport Ford World Rally Team Fiesta WRC, but soon found a comfortable rhythm with which to challenge for a strong result.

Ffion Tynan Sets Course For Augusta After Winning Scottish Title

Ffion Tynan has underlined her reputation as one of Welsh golf’s rising young stars by winning the Scottish Girls Championship at Monifieth. The 15-year-old Pontyclun schoolgirl – who struck her first hole-in-one at the age of nine – was the only player who finished below par as she came from behind to take the title. Up against some players two years her senior, Ffion struck a final round one-under par 72 to complete a one-under aggregate of 218. It was enough to give her both the main title and the Menzies Trophy for best Under-16 finisher.

We Will Keep The Home Fires Burning. . . And Stay In The Premier League, Says Carlos Carvalhal

Carlos Carvalhal believes home is where Swansea City’s heart is – and that will be enough to keep them in the Premier League. The Swans boss watched his side earn a precious point from a 1-1 draw at bottom club West Bromwich Albion on Saturday. It may have been a scrappy and unconvincing display, but it has extended the gap between the Swans and the relegation zone to four points, although Southampton have a game in hand.

Evans Eyes Fifth In Final Corsica Push

Elfyn Evans goes into today’s final leg of the Tour de Corse with his eyes firmly set on fifth place, after another strong day with new co-driver Phil Mills in the M-Sport Ford World Rally Team Fiesta WRC. The 29-year driver from Dolgellau is just 3.1 seconds behind Dani Sordo/Carlos del Barrio (Hyundai) and has been getting quicker as he and Mills develop that special driver/co-driver relationship – setting an event best fifth fastest on the final stage of day two, SS10. “We didn’t have the best of mornings, and I felt as though I was a bit too hesitant in places,” said Evans. “It wasn’t anything major, but it soon adds up. We made some improvements in the afternoon and I was feeling a lot more comfortable in the car. The relationship with Phil has gelled quite a lot better today too and we’ve seen some promising times which bodes well for tomorrow.”

Chelsea Lewis On Form, But Wales Netball Fall To Scots

A poor third quarter cost the Welsh netball team a first win at the Commonwealth Games as they fell 51-47 to Scotland. It was a much improved result on the disappointing 52-40 in Perth in January in the World Cup qualifying competition, but a 15-9 reverse in the third quarter blew Welsh hopes of building on their encouraging opening round defeat to New Zealand.
