Shane Williams, Martyn Williams And Eddie Bulter Lead Beeb Exodus To Premier Sports

Eddie Butler, Martyn Williams and Shane Williams will lead a group of high profile on-screen defections from the BBC to new rugby broadcaster Premier Sports. The line-up – due to be announced on Tuesday – could include as many as six regular BBC Wales faces and voices who worked on Scrum V and other areas of the BBC’s rugby coverage. It’s another blow for BBC Wales, who have been steadily losing rights for sports coverage and dropping sports programmes since 2006. Now, they find they are losing staff.

Erwin The Unready Believes His Time At Swansea City Has Finally Arrived

Erwin Mulder has told Swansea City manager Graham Potter the goalkeeping gloves are off in his fight for a starting place with Kristoffer Nordfeldt. Dutchman Mulder finally made his Swans debut in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat of Preston, 408 days after he joined the club from Heerenveen. If patience is a virtue then Mulder must be approaching sainthood status. Not only was he in the shadow cast by Lukasz Fabianski, before the keeper was sold to West Ham earlier this summer, but he was also eclipsed by Swedish World Cup squad member Nordfeldt in the battle to be No.2.

Rowlands Wins By One Second On Trawsfynydd Ranges

Ieaun and Owain Rowlands won the Minafon Garage Gareth Hall Memorial Rally by just one second in their Ford Escort Mk2, after a mistake on the final stage cost Dave Paveley/Rich Jones victory in their Mitsubishi Evo. The battle for honours over the damp and slippery Ranges Motor Sports Centre near Trawsfynydd saw the lead change six times during the exciting 12 stage event. Rowlands, who had been delayed early on with an engine misfire, and Paveley were neck and neck going into the final stage, but a mistake on a hairpin cost the Llandudno-based driver time – and victory by the smallest of margins.

Robert Croft Backs Glamorgan To Make T20 Last Eight Despite End Of Winning Streak

Robert Croft still believes Glamorgan are well placed to make the Vitality Blast T20 knockout stages, despite losing their unbeaten streak. The head coach watched his team fall to a convincing defeat at Somerset on Sunday, the county’s first setback following five straight victories. A sustained display of powerful hitting by New Zealander Corey Anderson – who struck 72 from just 30 balls – proved the decisive innings at Taunton where Somerset won by 29 runs.

The Poole AC athlete slashed almost 12 seconds off her previous best set in Holland in June. Courtney’s time of 15:04.75 eclipsed the previous Welsh best of 15:13.22 set by Cardiff AAC’s Angela Tooby in Oslo back in 1987.

Graham Potter Insists Unhappy Swans Had To Be Got Rid Of

Graham Potter has defended Swansea City’s deadline day exodus as resolutely as his players defended in their 1-0 victory over Preston. The Swans are in fourth spot in the early Championship table after a hard-fought victory decided by Jay Fulton’s only goal of the game. It was not always convincing in their first game of the campaign at the Liberty Stadium, but the result soothed what could have become a more fractious atmosphere following the selling spree on Thursday. Four players left the club, making it 12 in total during a downsizing summer which has improved the bank balance by £48m. Only four players have arrived for a quarter of that figure.

Swansea City Owners Braced For More Match Day Fury After Deadline Day Fire Sale

Swansea City’s owners are set to feel another blast of anger and disapproval heading their way across the Atlantic Ocean on Saturday afternoon. It may be the club’s first home match of their Championship season and Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan may have issued a statement attempting to explain their deadline day fire sale, but the heat has not been taken out of the supporters’ fury. On social media, Swansea fans have reacted angrily to the Americans’ outlining of their “strategy” and there have been calls for more of the venomous protests at the match against Preston that marked their final few matches in the Premier League last season.

Craig Meschede Has Blast Off For Glamorgan, Germany, And Maybe England, Too

Glamorgan all-rounder Craig Meschede still has ambitions of playing for England, despite his “out of the blue” call-up to the Germany squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup qualifiers in the Netherlands. Meschede – who hit 32 on Friday night as Glamorgan thrashed Hampshire at Sophia Gardens to climb to third place in the Vitality Blast South Group – can take advantage of the sport’s rules that allows players to switch national allegiance. “One of the guys got in touch with me to see if I could help out in any way,” Meschede explained. “I do have German roots and thought it would be a good thing to help out as my Dad is German. As long as it didn’t affect my English qualification, I was happy to do it.”
