Llewellin’s Swift Rallycross Recovery At Lydden Hill

Reigning MSA Junior Rallycross champion Tom Llewellin claimed the runners-up spot at Lydden Hill to continue his Swift Sport Championship challenge at round seven of the MSA British Rallycross Championship in Kent. Race day didn’t start too well, with a technical problem ruling the 17-year old Haverfordwest driver out of the first heat. Superb work by the Peter Gwynne Motorsport team soon had the little black car’s problems fixed, enabling Llewellin to finish second and third in the next two heats to qualify for the semi-final, where he finished second. Starting the final from row two, the Pembrokeshire teenager took an early joker lap and was in contention for the victory – until a slow puncture scuppered all hopes of victory. He did extremely well to hold onto second place, finishing behind series leader Morgan Bailey.

Graham Potter Faces Up To Royal Roy, The King Of Sweden

Graham Potter will take time to share Swedish stories with Roy Hodgson on Tuesday night after Swansea City have hosted Crystal Palace. Potter spent six years in Sweden – taking Ostersund from the fourth tier to the top level – before his move to Wales, but that adventure might not have been possible had it not been for Hodgson. The former England boss paved the way for British coaches in Scandinavia with his spells at both Malmo and Halmstad, before going to manage Switzerland, Liverpool, Fulham, England, and now Palace among others.

Once again the Team Pursuit turned into one of British cycling’s strongest suits at the European Under 23 track championships in Aigle, Switzerland. The 20-year-old rising Welsh star Joe Holt made it back-to-back gold medals as he joined forces with Matthew Bostock, Matt Walls and Fred Wright to retain the title, while Welsh duo Meg Barker and Jess Roberts teamed up with Jenny Holl and Rebecca Raybould to strike silver in the women’s event behind Italy. Barker and Roberts also doubled up to take silver again in the Madison event, while Barker was disappointed not to bring back more than a bronze in the Omnium.

George North And The Ospreys . . . A Marriage That Might Bring Back The Region’s Old Romance

After six years spent going backwards, the Ospreys need a lift and George North could be just the man to provide it. Graham Thomas looks at the player and his new region as both seek a fresh start by winding back the clock. If one man’s personal circumstance could signify the wider challenge for the Ospreys this season, then it would be George North. Like the region itself, their new marquee signing has had a scratchy couple of years, judged by the standards of previous glories. Both player and team are seeking some kind of redemption.

Pritchard Takes Magnificent Mewla Rally Victory

Jason Pritchard mastered what many considered to be the worst conditions they’d ever seen on Epynt to win the Old Forge Garage Mewla Rally in their North Road Garage Ford Focus RS WRC05. Torrential rain, standing water, strong winds and low cloud made the 13 stage, 75 stage mile event on the military ranges high above Sennybridge exceptionally tricky. The driver who made the least mistakes was going to come out on top, and sure enough the 30-year old Builth Wells driver did just that. Co-driven by Phil Clarke, Pritchard held onto an early advantage and controlled the event from the front, winning by 26 seconds. The result places Pritchard in a three-way battle for the Protyre MSA Asphalt Rally Championship drivers’ title. He’s tied in second place with Daniel Harper, who finished third on the Mewla Rally in his John Cooper Works Mini WRC, while Wayne Sisson (who finished fifth with Tywyn co-driver Max Freeman in a Mitsubishi Evo) is still out in front. It will be an exciting championship showdown on the final Ford Parts Cheviot Stages Rally on Otterburn (Sunday 28 October).

Pro 14 Final Will Come To Cardiff, Says Tournament Chief

The Welsh Rugby Union has been urged to throw its hat into the ring and bid to host next season’s Guinness Pro 14 final at the Principality Stadium. Martin Anayi, the Pro 14 chief executive, believes the home of Welsh rugby would be an ideal venue for his competition’s main event.  It is understood the WRU have opted against entering the bidding process for the final for the last two seasons and the 2018-19 campaign’s showpiece will be held at Glasgow’s Celtic Park as a result.
