How The Lions Have Gone From Headliners To A Desperate Tribute Act

The Lions are now an endangered species, says Robin Davey. Once vast wild beasts that roamed on tour for months on end, they risk becoming puny pussycats, pushed to scavenging on the margins for fixtures when they should still be kings of the rugby jungle. The very future of one of rugby’s greatest institutions is under real threat as a result of dramatic changes in the English calendar just announced. And that has to be a real rugby tragedy.

Phil Bennett At 70 . . . Still The Most Golden Of The Oldies And The Real Prince Of Wales

Phil Bennett was born on October 24th, 1948. His 70th birthday is an occasion when anyone still in love with Welsh rugby should raise a glass to a man who embodied its spirit. And anyone too young to remember him should get on YouTube. Graham Thomas pays tribute.  Phil Bennett is 70. But it’s not all bad news because as Wales and Warren Gatland suffer uncertainty over who to pick at fly-half next month, the great man seems willing to consider a comeback.

The RallyRACC Catalunya – Rally de España, as it’s officially called, is the penultimate round of the series and the only mixed-surface event on the calendar, combining one day of gravel stages with two days on asphalt.
