Cardiff’s fourth win in five home fixtures lifted them to 14 points and there were big celebrations among fans and players after a 1-0 win against Southampton. Football pundit Sutton predicted that […]

Wayne Pivac has offered no excuses after the Scarlets lost for the third successive time in the Heineken Champions Cup to end any realistic hopes of making the knockout stages. A narrow 25-24 home defeat to Ulster on Friday night means the region are still without a win at the halfway mark of the pool stages. The Scarlets needed a victory if they were going to repeat last season’s sequence of two early defeats ushering in four straight victories, but it never looked likely.

Welsh twins Fiona and Jenni Shuttleworth followed in the footsteps of one of the most famous sporting alumni of their junior school, Dan Biggar, in winning at Twickenham. The sisters packed down together in the back row for Cambridge as they won the 30thanniversary Women’s Varsity Match 8-5 to make it two wins out of two in their brief rugby careers. Although born in Bristol, the twins were raised in Swansea and went to the same Gowerton Primary School as Wales outside-half Biggar, who famously led Wales to a World Cup win over England at Twickenham in 2015.

It’s crunch time in Europe, so Robin Davey looks at the big questions. Do the Scarlets have a backstop position against Ulster even though Leigh Halfpenny is injured? Can the Cardiff Blues avoid a very hard border crossing when they go to Saracens? And what was the advice from the WRU given to the Dragons before they published their teamsheet? Europe is back on the rugby agenda and though it’s only the second block of the pool stages at least one Welsh region is in danger of crashing out without a deal. Tesni Evans could end 2018 with another title in Monte Carlo, consolidating her status as one of the leading squash players in the world. But if it’s fame and fortune she’s after, she’s probably in the wrong game – at least for a while – as she tells Graham Thomas. Tesni Evans laughs and rolls her eyes before confessing that the subject matter – money – is a popular one on the women’s professional squash circuit. “It’s a bit of a running joke,” says the ninth best player in the world. “A lot of the girls will mention a female tennis player who’s just said they don’t get enough prize money – or a guy complaining about the same – and ask, ‘I wonder how they’d cope as a squash player?’
