Glantaf And Aberdare Year 11s Prepare For RL Champion Schools

Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf and Aberdare Community Comprehensive School have qualified for the national rounds of the Year 11 Champion Schools rugby league cup competition. The draw for the last 16 has been made with Glantaf, whose players won the year 7 Final at Wembley Stadium in 2015, taking on Manchester-based St Mary’s Catholic High School in Loughborough on Thursday 17 January.

Wayne Pivac Wants Alun Wyn To Not Go Gently Into World Cup Goodnight

Wayne Pivac will bid to persuade Alun Wyn Jones to carry on with Wales after next year’s World Cup. Pivac – who joins the Welsh Rugby Union in July along with Stephen Jones and Jonathan Humphreys – plans talks with Jones about staying on when the Scarlets coach takes over the national job from Warren Gatland at the end of the tournament. Liam Williams Leads The Welsh Fighters Not Hoping For Peace At Christmas

Welsh boxers will have British titles in their sights over the Christmas and New Year periods with Church Village middleweight Liam Williams kicking-off the title chase this weekend in Manchester. Williams has already been crowned British, Commonwealth and European Super Welterweight champion in the course of his 21 professional fights, but missed out on the interim WBO World crown last year when he was beaten by Liam Smith on a technical knock-out at the same MEN Arena he will return to on Saturday night. Now he gets his chance to claim another British title when he goes up against the unbeaten Oldham middleweight Mark Heffron on the undercard of the Josh Warrington v Carl Frampton contest for the IBO World Featherweight title.

RL Legend Lee Crooks Named Wales U16s Head Coach

Wales Rugby League have appointed Great Britain legend Lee Crooks as their new under 16 international side’s head coach. The 55-year old will work in this role alongside his current positions in rugby league in Hull, where he is Director of Rugby at St Mary’s College and also assists with the development programmes at City of Hull Rugby League Academy, the programme that feeds players to both Hull FC and Hull Kingston Rovers.

Stephen Jones is expected to be confirmed as Wayne Pivac’s right-hand man with Wales on Wednesday as the rest of the post-World Cup regime takes shape. Jones, who is currently assistant to head coach Pivac at the Scarlets, has been the subject of five months’ of negotiation between the region and the Welsh Rugby Union. Ryan Giggs Makes Bookies’ Shortlist For Manchester United Job

Ryan Giggs has been priced as a 10-1 fourth favourite to become the next permanent manager of Manchester United following Jose Mourinho’s sacking. The Wales manager – who has previously managed United in a caretaker role – is behind French pair Lauren Blanc and Zinedine Zidane as well as Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino in the early betting. Giggs was given a four-year contract by the FAW when he took over from Chris Coleman back in January, but it was not clarified at the time of his appointment what release clauses had been inserted.
