Owain Doull and Luke Rowe got their campaigns underway with top 10 finishes in a crash-marred climax to the Down Under Classic. Olympic champ Doull finished sixth one place ahead of his fellow Team Sky rider Rowe.
Elfyn Evans is aiming to get back to his winning ways this year, as he leads the M-Sport Ford World Rally Team as its number one driver in the 2019 FIA World Rally Championship. A poor start to the 2018 season saw the 30-year old Dolgellau driver having to play a supporting role to team-mate Sébastien Ogier in his successful quest for a sixth world title. But with the Frenchman now gone to rival team Citroën, Evans will lead the M-Sport assault – contesting all 14 rounds of the WRC, while less experienced team-mates share a second and third team car. Evans will also have a new co-driver this year, as Scott Martin – who has most recently co-driven for Irishman Craig Breen – replaces Dan Barritt.
Graham Potter has suggested Swansea City are simply not good enough to entertain thoughts of a promotion back to the Premier League this season. The Swans manager saw his team held to a 1-1 draw at lowly Preston to leave them six points adrift on the Championship play-offs. Back in the lower half of the table, and with little sign that any significant new players are going to be recruited in this transfer window, it appears Potter has settled for consolidation.
Glasgow Clan 2, Cardiff Devils 4 Cardiff Devils ground out their sixth successive Elite League victory, beating Glasgow Clan to move three points clear at the top. Allen Clarke has admitted his Ospreys team were simply not up to the mark as realistic Welsh interest in the knockout stages of European rugby came to an end. The Ospreys head coach watched his side stumble to a 20-18 home defeat to a Worcester team that showed 13 changes to their regular Gallagher Premiership side. It means the region need a mathematical miracle to make the last eight of the European Challenge Cup, while the Dragons had long since ruled out that possibility.

Following yesterday’s conclusion of Phase 1, the league now splits in the middle for a further 10 rounds of games. Current holders The New […]
It was a trip to Llandybie for the Deadballline Guy this weekend, where the home side beat Llangadog, 41-12 in their Division Three West B clash. Hiding away in exile at Llandybie these days is former Scarlets and Wales backs coach Allan Lewis, a man who’s been around more clubs than DBG himself. After the match, Allan sat down with Deaders and told him why he’s still coaching in grassroots club rugby after all these years.

The Welsh athlete’s performance helped Great Britain & Northern Ireland earn vital points as they held off Team USA, to finish with 84 points overall. Team Europe took victory, accumulating 55 points.
Neil Warnock insisted he was satisfied with a point against Huddersfield – if only because the outcome could have been worse for Cardiff City. A true stinker of a game ended 0-0, a result that suited Cardiff marginally more than their visitors, although it could easily be argued this was the Bluebirds’ worst performance of the season so far. It is one thing to be brushed aside by the likes of Tottenham or Manchester United, but another to be outplayed at home by a club bottom of the table and who arrived on the back of nine straight defeats.
Canadian winger James Livingston signed for Cardiff Devils this week – and chatted to Dai_Sport journalist Terry Phillips in an exclusive interview James Livingston, Cardiff Devils’ new power forward, makes his Elite League debut this weekend. Vashon Neufville had never heard of Newport County eight days ago, but already the talented West Ham teenager is written into the club’s folklore. It was the 19-year-old wing back’s cross that earned his side the penalty that enabled Padraig Amond to hit the back of the Leicester City net and claim a 2-1 win over the recent Premier League champions to provide the biggest giant-killing act of the third round of the FA Cup last weekend. A week on, Neufville is hoping to back up his first game of senior professional football with his league debut at Crewe today (Saturday) as he begins to adjust to the extreme culture shock of swapping one of the top academies in British football for life in League Two.
The Ospreys have been warned to beware the England steamroller when they face Worcester today in their crunch European Challenge Cup clash at the Liberty Stadium. Ben Te’o came off the bench to help the Warriors finally bash down the Ospreys’ defence for a 27-21 victory in the home fixture and containing the Lions centre’s power is likely to be key factor if the region are to keep their knockout hopes alive. Te’o has not played for the Warriors since due to international commitments and being a handed a chance to refresh, so Warriors head coach Rory Duncan is expecting the New Zealand-born player to cause the Ospreys plenty of headaches.
Tania Hoffman believes the return of Suzy Drane – and an iconic Olympic venue – can inspire the Celtic Dragons to their first victory of the Vitality Netball Superleague tonight. The Dragons are at the Copper Box Arena to face London Pulse where they aim to follow-up last week’s encouraging season opener against Team Bath by ruining the new franchise’s big opening home night. For Dragons coach Hoffman, this is the type of fixture the team should be capable of winning and the return of Wales captain Drane has improved the odds of a morale-boosting away victory.
Andy Powell has a return trip to the Principality Stadium in mind this season after steering Brecon through the first half of the campaign unbeaten.
