Warren Gatland Salutes Wales’ Durability – On And Off The Field

Warren Gatland praised his players’ mental toughness after Wales shrugged off a potentially catastrophic build-up to record an 18-11 victory over hosts Scotland that kept them on track for the Grand Slam. Gatland had named his team two days early on Tuesday after the coach admitted their preparations had been disrupted by a midweek furore over merger plans involving the Ospreys and Scarlets. “This is a fantastic group of men, they’re pretty tight and close but

Neil Warnock: I Asked The Splitters To Stand Up . . . Nobody Did

Neil Warnock insisted he has not been hurt by painful splinters as he labelled Cardiff City’s victory over West Ham as their biggest of the season. The Bluebirds stayed in touch with the clubs above them as they beat the Hammers 2-0 at home thanks to goals from Junior Hoiliett and Victor Camarasa. It was […]

Pruning Roses Or Crushing Thistles . . . Josh Adams Is Ready To Make His Mark At Murrayfield

The Wales player who pulled the last few petals off the withering red rose insists the flower of Scotland can be pruned in the same way at Murrayfield today. Josh Adams – scorer of the try that clinched victory over England – believes Wales’ Grand Slam seekers are professional enough to block out any echoes from a noisy week of disharmony back home. The unbeaten Guinness Six Nations leaders face Scotland in Edinburgh, where a fourth successive win in this season’s tournament would leave them chasing silverware against Ireland in Cardiff on Saturday week.

Evans Keeps A Cool (And Fast) Pace In The Mexican Heat

A cool, calm and clean approach has put Elfyn Evans in a very strong second position on Rally Mexico, after Friday’s hot and gruelling gravel stages. The M-Sport Ford World Rally Team driver is just 14.8 seconds behind leader Sébastien Ogier (Citroen C3 WRC) after the event’s first nine stages, as temperatures topped 31°C and crews climbed to an energy-sapping altitude of more than 2750 metres. Co-driven by Scott Martin, Evans wasn’t the quickest over the stages, but his consistently fast and clean approach in his Ford Fiesta WRC is paying dividends. With a day and a half of the event still to run, the tactic has put the 30-year old from Dolgellau very much in contention for victory.

Graham Potter Tells Swans To Hit More Peaks . . . And Fewer Troughs

Graham Potter has told his Swansea City players they must deliver more consistency if they are going to compete with the best teams in the Championship. The Swans lost 1-0 at leaders Norwich on Friday night – a result that keeps them seven points adrift of the play-offs – but both managers handed out most of their praise to the losers. In Daniel Farke’s case that may have been a tactical decision, designed in part to deflect from a sub-standard display from his title favourites who had to rely on a single, magnificent goal by Emiliano Buendia. But Potter’s verdict was tempered with a realisation that his young side must learn to maintain their performance levels from week to week, rather than worry the leaders one day and fade away against mid-table opponents the next.

Connah’s Quay v TNS – Will Scott Ruscoe Turn To Greg Draper, His Not-So-Secret Weapon?

I’d be prepared to wager good money that there is no other top-flight league in Europe that has their top-goalscorer unable to nail down a regular starting place with his club side, but after 26 games this season that is the case for The New Saints’ 18-goal striker Greg Draper. Draper, a seven-time WPL winner […]

George The First – Lleucu’s Nerveless Kick Gives Wales First Campaign Victory

Lleucu George ensured Wales Women secured a dramatic Six Nations victory on Friday night that Scotland coach Shade Munro admitted, “felt so cruel”. George snatched a nerve-jangling 17-15 win – Wales’ first of the tournament – when she held it together to kick an awkward, into the wind conversion of Siwan Llilicrap’s try which came from the last move of the match at Scotstoun. “That felt so cruel,” said Munro. “But it comes down to playing the conditions – we played them well in the first half but we should have played more territory in the second half. Wales made it difficult but ultimately you want to play the game in their half.”

Evans Fourth After Opening Street Stage In Mexico

Elfyn Evans is in a strong fourth position after last night’s opening stage of Rally Mexico – although he was one of the last drivers to contest the signature stage through the packed streets of Guanajuato, as a purpose-built jump near the finish became damaged. Many drivers, including Evans, suffered heart-stopping heavy landings and the stage was eventually cancelled, with drivers who didn’t tackle the stage awarded a notional time. “It [the stage] was okay, a bit slippery into the first corner and this jump is really, really aggressive,” said Evans. “That took us by surprise, otherwise okay.”
