Josh Adams . . . Racing Past George North Both On And Off The Field

Josh Adams has only been in the Wales team for a year, but it’s a measure of his impact that there were more media swirling around him with cameras and microphones this week than there were around George North. That may have a little to do with the fact that Adams was also the designated Welsh speaker handed to broadcasters – North, presumably, having been given a day off from Cymraeg duties – but it also illustrates how the Worcester wing has moved from relative unknown to box office Six Nations star. A brilliant jinking run sparked Wales’ revival against France in Paris on opening night, since when Adams has scored a try in every game. Against Italy, he showed a finisher’s instinct, there was the spectacular athleticism and skill against England, followed by a mesmerising feint with his head and turbo-charged body swerve last week against Scotland at Murrayfield.

Craig Jones Strikes First In Welsh Tarmacadam Rally Battle

Craig Jones has taken the early lead in the 2019 JD Tyres Welsh Tarmacadam Rally Championship after scoring maximum points on the opening round of the series, the Rallynuts National Tour of Epynt. The Llangorse-based garage proprietor had a great drive to sixth overall in his JayJays-backed Mitsubishi Evo 9, which is now fitted with a sequential shift gearbox. He and co-driver Shaun Layland never put a foot wrong over the seven special stage event, despite some atrocious weather conditions. Triple Welsh Tarmacadam Rally Champion Richard Merriman got the defence of his Welsh Tarmacadam off to a good start with second placed points. Heavy sleet and rain showers made it far from ideal conditions for the Pontypridd driver’s two-litre rear-wheel drive The Roof Hub/Touchline-backed Darrian T90, but a great performance by him and co-driver Kath Curzon was rewarded with a 12th overall finish.

Mike Ruddock Says Grand Slam Glory Is An Open And Shut Case

Mike Ruddock believes the destiny of the Grand Slam will be shaped by the decision on whether or not to have the roof closed at the Principality Stadium tomorrow. Leave it open and Ruddock considers the forecast wet conditions could just give Ireland – his resident homeland – enough of an edge to deny Wales a third Grand Slam of the Warren Gatland era. Have it closed and the coach who masterminded the Slam of 2005 – the first for 27 years – think a faster game would tilt the contest in the home side’s favour.

Cave Heads To West Cork With Confidence

Tom Cave is aiming to get his British Rally championship title challenge back on track this weekend (16-17 March) when he heads to Southern Ireland for round two, the Clonakilty Park Hotel West Cork Rally. The Aberdyfi driver will be joined on the event by his co-driver for the past three seasons James Morgan from Hirwaun, who sits in for Dale Bowen who is unable to partner Cave this weekend. West Cork is the first asphalt event of the season for Cave, who will be looking to replicate his performance from last month’s Visit Conwy Cambrian Rally, but not the result. Whilst he set a series of front-running times and was challenging for the lead on the final loop of stages in the North Wales forests, three consecutive punctures meant he was unable to make it to the finish.
