Over 100 drivers and cars will be thundering around the Anglesey Circuit this weekend, at the double-header British Sprint Championship weekend (6/7 April). It’s the first of two such sprint meetings that will be held at Ty Croes this year, organised by Longton and District Motor Club. Ioan Lloyd scored his first rally win of his career after dominating the Formula 1000 Junior Rally Championship category at the recent DCC Ingliston Stages Rally. The Llandysul teenager, who finished runner-up in the series last year, set the fastest time on six out of the eight stages in his Citroen C1 to score a stylish 16 second victory on the all-asphalt event, which was held near Edinburgh Airport. The result has moved Lloyd and co-driver Jonathan Jackson (who is originally from Colwyn Bay) up to fifth in the F1000 driver standings, two points ahead of fellow Welsh driver Max Hughes and equal on points with fourth-placed Robert Wilson. The three drivers ahead of Lloyd have scored on both rounds, and with the best six scores from 10 rallies counting, this puts him in a very good position going into round three on Anglesey.

Wales’ current crop of marathon runners may not be fuelled on a diet of coke and meat pies that took Steve Jones to the world record. But as he tells Dai Sport’s athletics writer Owen Morgan in an exclusive interview, the now Colorado-based running legend is excited about the chances of the likes of Dewi Griffiths, Josh Griffiths and Natasha Cockram in London this year and is always ready to pass on his knowledge to the next generation.
Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds still have hopes of avoiding the drop. They are arguably among six, maybe seven teams, still in danger. Realistically, though, Burnley, Southampton and Brighton are the teams Cardiff will try to chase down. All three could falter if Warnock’s men can earn the wins needed. Huddersfield Town (14 points) and Fulham (17) […]
Neil Warnock has admitted the odds are against Cardiff City surviving in the Premier League – but has vowed to keep fighting. Warnock saw his team lose to a top six team for the second time inside four days as they were beaten 2-0 at Manchester City, who went back to the top of the table. Goals from Kevin de Bruyne and Leroy Sane in the first-half did not reflect the extent of the champions’ dominance but Cardiff showed much more resilience than they did in the first half of the campaign when up against the top teams.
First they made it bigger, then they made it smaller. Now, the constant tinkering and down-grading could mean Welsh rugby’s Premiership disappears altogether, warns Robin Davey. Welsh rugby’s Premiership . . . it sounds elite, special, as if care would be taken over it. But the truth is that it’s an unholy mess.
Ashburnham’s Aled Greville produced an impressive final round display to win The R&A Foundation Scholars Tournament in St Andrew’s and qualify for the International Team in this year’s Palmer Cup. The Knighton-born rider goes into the third round of the season at Motorland Aragon 11th in the standings with 18 points from the opening rounds in Australia and Thailand.
Graham Potter has urged Daniel James to stay at Swansea City in order to fulfil his long-term potential. James gave more evidence of his rare talent on Tuesday night with another goal and unstoppable performance in his side’s 3-0 victory over Brentford at the Liberty Stadium. The Wales youngster scored his second goal in three matches, rattled the crossbar, and caused plenty of problems with his pace against the same opposition he destroyed with a wonder goal in the FA Cup.

What’s that lighting up the night skies in the Valleys? Probably a Rhondda Rocket, who are scorching towards the title in the A470 netball league – and blazing a trail for others to follow behind as Graham Thomas discovered. Rhondda Rockets are powering towards their first title as they bid to shake up the solar system of Welsh netball. Player-coached by former Wales international Nichola James – now Nichola Cooke – the Rockets have two games remaining and a narrow lead at the top of the A470 League. If they hold onto top spot then it will be a first planet conquered by the Rockets who have bigger galaxies on their radar – such as one day being part of an all-Wales national domestic league or even holding a franchise in the UK-wide Vitality Superleague.

The semi-final will see Pooler take on the current Principality Premiership champions and the Gwent club’s director of rugby Jones claimed: “Merthyr are the best club team in Wales.
Loren Dykes will prove on Thursday night that however fast-growing, exciting and fresh-faced women’s football has become there is still a place for the more experienced campaigners in Jayne Ludlow’s set-up. The Bristol City defender may not be one of the headline acts in the Welsh team, but she is certainly part of the bedrock – and has been ever since she won the first of what will become a century of caps against the Netherlands way back in August, 2007.
Wayne Routledge could return for Swansea City tonight as the club bid to avoid a fifth straight defeat when they host Brentford. The veteran winger is back in the Swans’ squad after missing Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest because his wife gave birth to a baby boy on Friday. Forget Brexit, the real cliff-edge moment has arrived for the Welsh regions and their place in Europe. The next three rounds of Guinness PRO14 matches will determine whether or not the Scarlets fail to reach the Heineken Champions Cup for the first time in their history and if the four Welsh regions have any teams in Europe’s top tournament next season. There is so much to play for to ensure the domestic season doesn’t go out with a whimper after such a thrilling Six Nations campaign. Surely, one Welsh region – either the Cardiff Blues or the Scarlets (the Ospreys are a long shot) – is good enough to make the play-offs and play in the Europe’s top-tier in 2019/20.
