The Day Neil Taylor Tried To Smash Luka Modric . . . And Came Off Second Best

Neil Taylor aims to gain more success dealing with Luka Modric this weekend than he did as a naïve Wales newbie almost a decade ago. Saturday’s Euro 2020 qualifier in Osijek will pitch Wales full-back Taylor up against the skills of the brilliant Modric, the Ballon d’Or holder, who will look to undermine Welsh hopes at the intimidating Stadion Gradski Vrt. Back in 2010, Taylor came on as a substitute for his Wales debut and wanted to impress then manager John Toshack by getting stuck into Modric.

Sam Davies Feared Border Exit Would Have Left Him Out Of Sight And Mind

Sam Davies has revealed he might have become Welsh rugby’s forgotten man had he turned his back on regional rugby. The fly-half has moved from the Liberty Stadium and the Ospreys to join the Dragons, with the intention of jogging the memory of those who have forgotten he is already a full international. Davies, now 25, won the last of his eight caps two summers ago and admits his move to Rodney Parade is all down to rekindling interest in his talent by the new Wales coaching team.

Video casts new doubt on South Wales Warriors touchdown

A WEEK after clashing in Llanharan the South Wales Warriors and Somerset Wyverns will meet again with the extraordinary touchdown scored on Sunday causing further controversy.  The Wyverns had been unhappy that officials allowed the home side’s opening touchdown in last Sunday’s 29-6 loss at the Dairy Field believing they had ‘grounded’ the ball after punting it away towards the end of the first quarter. Somerset host the return fixture at their Victoria Park home in Taunton on Sunday (2.30pm) looking to avenge their defeat and fueled by the bitter aftertaste of the touchdown they believe shouldn’t have been allowed to stand. The club has also released a video showing the touchdown which suggests the score was wrongly awarded.

Glamorgan Go Top After Best Win For 52 Years . . . And David Lloyd Says There’s More To Come

Glamorgan captain David Lloyd believes his side’s thumping record victory over Northamptonshire suggests they are capable of mounting a promotion challenge this season. The Welsh county’s away win on Wednesday – by an innings and 143 runs – was their best winning margin in County Championship cricket since 1967 and it lifted them to the top of the Division Two table. Michael Hogan and Marchant de Lange were the bowlers who did the damage as they ripped through the Northants second innings – reducing them from 146 for 3 to 195 all out.

Kyra Jones Bows Out With Plenty Of Boxes Ticked . . . And A Belief The Celtic Dragons Can Fly Higher

Kyra Jones believes the 2019 season will prove a turning point for the Celtic Dragons, but admits frustration that it could have been even better. Wales’ only team in the Vitality Netball Superleague, the Dragons finished seventh in the 10-team table, a placing that sounds modest enough but should be viewed in the context of what had gone before. In 2018, the Dragons finished bottom. The previous year, 2017, saw them last again, whilst in 2016 they were bottom-but-one in the eight-team structure.

Ryan Giggs is backing his “Mr Reliable” to get back to the Premier League. Joe Allen will be tasked with matching Real Madrid mega-star Luka Modric when he wins his 50th Welsh cap in Croatia this weekend, but will then have to return to playing in the Championship at Stoke City for a second season this winter. But Giggs believes the 29-year-old is still good enough to get back into the top flight and repeat the form he showed there previously with Swansea City, Liverpool and Stoke.

Figures Show Most Rugby Fans Still Giving The Bum’s Rush To Watching Europe’s Elite

As anticipated, the Champions League final attracted massive interest with an estimated 60,000 ticketless fans making their way to Madrid last week where Liverpool beat Tottenham. In rugby, though, as Robin Davey notes, few fans are buying battered old cars to drive to Grenoble to watch the Dragons. It’s not only among the Brexit brigade where they are cool towards Europe, it’s much the same when it comes to rugby fans according to figures which have just been released. Of 34 clubs, regions and provinces which play in either the Heineken Champions Cup or Challenge Cup competitions, as many as 27 show that attendances for their domestic league matches are higher (in some cases considerably higher) than for games in their respective European tournaments.
