Sir Gareth Edwards has received a lasting image of what is widely acclaimed as rugby union’s greatest try. Edwards’ touchdown for the Barbarians against New Zealand at Cardiff Arms Park in January 1973 has long entered sporting folklore. But, amazingly, there are no recorded photographs, with only television footage available to showcase a breath-taking length-of-the-field move started by Phil Bennett, who died last month, and finished by Edwards.
By Stuart Taylor Wales captain Dan Biggar has previously had the somewhat dubious honour of being named among the world’s most hated rugby players. Yes, sadly, such a list exists. Last year, the top-five list compiled by the rugby website Ruck.co.uk saw Biggar named No.5, with fellow fly-half Owen Farrell of England named the most hated man […]

Cunningham – who had been linked with a number of other job – has extended his deal until 2025, but the new full-time players only have short-term contracts which run to the end of the year. The Welsh Rugby Union also plan other short term deals to get them through the delayed women’s World Cup which starts in October.

For much […]

In a match of constantly fluctuating fortunes, the all-round performance of Wales’ Brad Wadlan looks like proving decisive. Having made a century on the first day, Wadlan took six […]

Sitting in third place, Nicoll stepped into the circle at the Manchester Regional Arena for her fourth round effort.

Damian Willemse broke Welsh hearts with the final kick of a pulsating game at Loftus Versfeld after Biggar infringed through a deliberate knock-on. For large parts of an epic contest, Wales looked destined to end 58 years of hurt by claiming a first victory over the Springboks in South Africa at the 11th attempt.
