The Wales wing reckons the incentive is there to give new national head coach Steve Tandy a boost ahead of the November Tests.
Adams’ Cardiff side kick-off their campaign at home against the Lions on Saturday night (27 September), while the Scarlets start with a clash with Munster at Parc y Scarlets earlier in the same day.
The Dragons head to Belfast to chase a first win in 10 years over Ulster on Friday night and the Ospreys are in Pretoria to take on the Bulls.
“It’s important the regions get the season off to a good start. Being competitive and winning tight games helps you to fight your cause a bit better,” said Adams.
“I’m sure Steve Tandy will want players going into the Autumn who have played in tight and tough matches.
“That can only bode well for international rugby and it’s vital all four regions are competing and being in the fight in every game.”
Wales will face Argentina, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa in the Quilter Nations Series, but Adams believes that having won the second Test in Japan during the summer tour the Welsh side will be raring to go under Tandy.
“Our run prior to winning in Japan means it is easy to say it will be tough for us in the Autumn. You could pick any team for us to play against in the Autumn, and it would be tough,” said Adams.
“Argentina are class at the moment and are playing some awesome rugby. The way they are going I reckon they are better than New Zealand and Australia at the moment.
“We’ve also got to play Japan, who will want to bite us back for beating them in the summer, and with South Africa coming as well, we will be facing arguably three of the top four teams in the world.
“But that’s what we want, and we won’t shy away from it. I’m sure the coaches will want these tough matches, and we need to prove our game can hold up against teams like this and we can have a go at them.”

But it will be club duty for Adams before he starts thinking about adding to his 63 caps and 23 tries for his country.
His try in the 31-22 win over the Japanese in Kobe took him to fifth equal on the Welsh try scoring charts.
“I felt good out in Japan. I got a decent run of games before we went, maybe four or five in a row, and that was beneficial,” added Adams.
“The camp we had before going was tough and I felt good after that, and I do now. I just hope that carries on.
“They just lost in the Currie Cup final, so they will be disappointed with that having been the favourites.
“We know the Lions will be hurting from losing in the Currie Cup final, although there will be some changes to that side. They are a team who work hard for each other.

“You wouldn’t say they are the superstars of the South African franchises but they are tough to beat. We will have to be close to our best to get something out of the game.
“We ended the season with amazing support at the Arms Park and so if we can start it the same way it is only going to benefit us. The fans certainly give us an edge on game day when the ground is full.
“Let’s hope we can get that. For the fans to show their support to us throughout this period of time means a lot to us.”
