‘Devastated’ Jac Morgan Faces Fight to Recover Fitness for Six Nations

Wales captain Jac Morgan is “devastated” after suffering a dislocated shoulder that will rule him out for the remainder of the autumn campaign — and possibly the start of the Six Nations.

Head coach Steve Tandy confirmed the grim news following Wales’ 52-28 defeat to Argentina in Cardiff, describing the loss of his skipper as a “massive blow” both on and off the field.

“It’s not looking good for Jac,” said Tandy.

“It is a massive blow. He's a world-class player, he's huge for us and we know how much he loves playing for Wales and how he leads the team.

“I've seen him in the changing rooms, he's devastated. Ultimately, it's just about Jac now recovering.”

Morgan sustained the injury while scoring a superb second-half try — a moment that had briefly lifted the home crowd during an otherwise chastening afternoon at the Principality Stadium.

The flanker’s eighth international try capped another outstanding individual performance, but his departure left a significant void in a side already struggling for form.

“Jac was outstanding and the try he scored was unbelievable from that distance,” Tandy added.

“It's a blow. Not only just the player, but the man. With this group, we spoke about having tough moments in this journey.”

The defeat marked Tandy’s first match in charge of Wales and Argentina’s record victory over the men in red.

While there were glimpses of promise in attack, the occasion was overshadowed by Morgan’s injury — a setback that compounded the disappointment of a seven-try loss.

Wales will now turn to Dewi Lake to captain the side for the remaining fixtures against Japan, New Zealand and South Africa, while Tandy prepares to call up a replacement flanker.

“We'll definitely call someone up and will discuss that after assessing things in the next 24 hours,” said Tandy.

“We've got some really good players. Tommy [Reffell] is an outstanding international, playing well for Leicester while Harri Deaves has been unbelievable for the Ospreys for a consistent period. So we've got options.”

Morgan’s absence leaves Wales short on experience in the back row, with uncapped prospects such as Morgan Morse also under consideration.

Argentina’s captain Julian Montoya paid tribute to Morgan’s performance.

“He's an outstanding player. I'm not surprised by the way he played,” Montoya said.

“He's very, very good week in, week out. I wish him a good recovery.”
