- Mica Moore Racing Towards Jamaica Selection For Winter Olympics
Moore has been to a Games before (PyeongChang in 2018), but that was for Team GB in the Women's two-woman bobsleigh.
Now, she’s back on the ice and hoping to represent Jamaica in the Women’s Monobob.
Moore’s grandfather, Venson Byfield, came to the UK as part of the Windrush generation.
She got her own Jamaican citizenship a year ago.
To make the cut for the Jamaican Olympic team for the Games in February, Moore needs to have a big winter season.
She also needs sponsorship and she needs to keep moving forward towards her dream, at breakneck speed.
A step in the right direction came at the start of December when she secured a maiden podium finish in the Women’s Monobob, taking third place in Race Three of the North America Cup in Park City, Utah.
The result built on an encouraging start to the season for Moore, who previously finished sixth and fourth in Whistler, and it moved her further up the standings as she collects valuable qualification points on the road to the 2026 Milano–Cortina Winter Olympics.
A former sprinter, Moore has successfully transitioned into bobsleigh and now competes with pride for Jamaica.
She first represented Wales in the 4x100m relay at the 2014 Commonwealth Games before switching to winter sport, going on to race for Great Britain in the two-woman bobsleigh at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics.
Since aligning herself with Jamaica’s women’s bobsleigh programme, Moore has effectively relaunched her sporting career under the nation’s iconic black, gold and green colours, with her latest podium finish underlining her growing confidence and potential in the monobob discipline.
When she’s not hurtling down the mountains she trains at Cardiff Metropolitan University, where she’s an alumna of the world-renowned Sport Broadcast MSc Masters programme.
