Wrexham AFC’s Supporters Trust have called a special meeting to discuss a potential £2million takeover of the club.

The approach to take over the National League outfit is said to have come from “two extremely well-known individuals of high net worth”.

The duo wish to remain anonymous at the moment amid suggestions they are linked to an American investment group.

Wrexham has been under fan ownership since 2011 but the takeover would see £2m immediately invested into the Racecourse Ground outfit.

The SGM is needed for approval from members to pursue discussions regarding the offer, says the Trust, adding they have taken professional advice and that the indicative offer is entirely credible.

The Trust will meet on 22 September. The identity of the interested individuals can be disclosed once members have authorised the board to proceed with discussions.

“It’s in its very early stages and at the moment our focus needs to remain firmly on getting the squad prepared for the first game of the season,” Wrexham director Spencer Harris told BBC Sport Wales.

“And then this will run along in the background for supporters to make their minds up on what direction they want the club to go in.

“There are many hurdles to go through yet before we have a firm proposal to put forward to fans.

“In terms of any cash injection into a football club and especially at this level, it makes a significant amount of difference.”

Manager Dean Keates has signed 10 players during the summer.
