Harborough Town 2, Merthyr Town 6
Ryan Prosser, Owain Jones and Gethyn Hill scored two goals apiece in Merthyr Town’s convincing pre-season away win at United Counties League Harborough Town.
Player-manager Gavin Williams started and stayed on for more than an hour before making way for Owain Evans – and he later went back on to replace Lewis Binns.
Kyle Patten, Ashley Evans, Jamie Veale, Lee Lucas, Hill and Ben Swallow all played the full 90 minutes.
The Martyrs remain unbeaten during pre-season and have two fixtures left, against Aberfan at the Grove on Wednesday and Welsh Premier League Penybont away on Friday.
Centre-forward Prosser scored Merthyr’s first goal at Harborough, turning a defender before shooting low into a corner.
Hill made hot 2-0 just before the 30 minutes mark, finishing in clinical style after an excellent squared pass from Owain Jones.
Prosser netted his second from a penalty after 33 minutes. Jamie Veale was fouled and Prosser sent Harborough’s goalkeeper the wrong way with his spot-kick.
Jones added Merthyr’s fourth when he chipped the ‘keeper on 56 minutes and soon after made it 5-1 with a fierce strike across the stretching goalkeeper into the far right-hand corner.
Harborough pulled a goal back, but Hill had the final say when he completed the 6-2 scoreline three minutes from the end.

Merthyr Town 5, Penydarren BGC 0
Kerry Morgan scored two first half goals in Merthyr’s five-goal win against Penydarren BGC.
His first came from a penalty on 20 minutes when he scored with a shot low into the right-hand corner.
Merthyr were awarded a second penalty after Jamie Veale was brought down by Alex Lloyd and Morgan scored again, this time firing down the middle.
The Martyrs almost made it 3-0 when a Corey Jenkins shot was deflected away for a corner and from the corner Jarrad Wright’s header brought an exceptional save from the goalkeeper.
Goalkeeper Cameron Clarke kept Penydarren out when he made a spectacular save from Alex Long’s fierce shot, while at the other end Prosser was denied by the goalkeeper.
Merthyr scored three times in 11 minutes near the end. Kieron Lewis turned a defender inside the area to fire low and hard into the bottom corner on 75 minutes and Prosser made it 4-0 after Hill set up the chance.
Former Cardiff City youth player Hill then completed the 5-0 scoreline when he went round the goalkeeper and scored.
Merthyr have three more pre-season games – against Aberfan, Penybont and Brecon Curries – before their opening BetVictor Southern League Premier South fixture against Harrow Borough away on Saturday, August 10.
That is followed by successive home matches, against Weston-super-Mare the following Tuesday and then Gosport Borough.
