A quick scan to his right and an instinctive, but majestic, swipe of his left boot was all it took for Harry Wilson to produce yet another moment of magic in a Fulham shirt, reports Ian Mitchelmore.

With bedlam unfolding all around him, the Wales international combined immense skill with awareness and composure to put the Cottagers in dreamland early on against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend with a sensational strike from 36.6 metres out.

"Raul [Jimenez] makes a great run in behind, and then I saw that the goalkeeper was in a bit of a sticky situation," Wilson said of his stunner in north London which proved decisive in Fulahm’s 2-1 victory.

"I tried to back Raul up, he ends up kicking it through my legs, but when I saw it land at Josh's [Josh King] feet, he gave me a lovely set.

"I was able to have a quick look and I realised there was no one on the line.

"It was just all about trying to make good contact, get it on the right line, and as soon as it left my foot I had a feeling it was going in.

"To see it hit the back of the net was amazing."

It was the 28-year-old's third Premier League goal of the campaign for Fulham - with Marco Silva's men winning each of the three fixtures when Wilson has netted.

"What a goal from Harry, what composure from H to know that the goalkeeper was not in the goal," said head coach Silva.

"The first touch on the ball after the pass from Josh, what a finish, a top class goal from Harry."

Speaking during their analysis of the contest on Match of the Day, former goalkeeper Joe Hart hailed the goal as "an absolute piece of art" while Danny Murphy praised the "great vision" of Wales' playmaker.

On a personal note for Wilson - who was in and out of the Fulham starting 11 during the 2024-25 campaign - the Welshman has started nine top-flight matches in succession this season when he has been free of injury.

Indeed, injuries and non-selection hampered his progress last term, with a 10-game run of successive league starts between December and January being his best return at club level last year.

Silva's side have been far from their best this season, although their win against London rivals Spurs was their first away from home in the league and lifted the Craven Cottage outfit six points clear of the relegation zone.

And for Wilson - who bagged a hat-trick on the international stage last time out as Wales thrashed North Macedonia 7-1 at Cardiff City Stadium - the stats make for encouraging reading.

His sublime strike against Thomas Frank's Spurs means he is now his club's leading goal scorer in the league and is outperforming his expected goals (XG) by 1.36, better than any other Fulham player.

Only Sander Berge has a better return than Wilson's figure of 82.8% when it comes to successful final third passes, while no Fulham player has made more carries that have led to a shot or a chance than the former Liverpool youngster.

The Corwen product has not all been about the end product though. His 68.8% success rate when it comes to winning ground duels is the best of any Fulham player this season, highlighting his willingness to graft defensively for the team.

All of this matters a good deal to Wales as they head towards those crunch World Cup play-off ties next March.

Wilson is unquestionably now the go-to man for Wales, the provider of spark, ingenuity, composure and rare skill level.

When a team performance is lacking, he is the player others now look towards for a moment of inspiration.

So, an in-form Harry Wilson will be a major plus for Craig Bellamy when it comes to those World Cup deciders and the hoped-for adventure next summer in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

After a frustrating 2024-25 campaign at club level last year, Wilson is warming up nicely for his Wales tasks by once again showing he is fully worthy of regular selection by Fulham head coach Silva.
