David Turnbull has described Cardiff City as a “huge club” after leaving Celtic to join the Bluebirds in a deadline day deal worth around £2m.

Cardiff confirmed the arrival of the Scottish international midfielder on a permanent deal from for an undisclosed fee, penning a contract until June 2027.

Manager Erol Bulut also made deals to bring in Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Ethan Horvath on a permanent transfer as well as Manchester City’s 21-year-old wing-back Josh Wilson-Esbrand, on loan for the rest of the season.

In total, Turnbull scored 31 goals and recorded 23 assists during his time at Celtic Park, and now arrives at Cardiff or his first experience of Championship football.

The five-cap former Motherwell player made 100 league appearances for Celtic, winning the Scottish Premiership twice, along with two Scottish Cup titles and two Scottish League Cups.

“It’s been a long day or two, but I’m really glad to get it over the line and can’t wait to get started,” Turbull said.

“When I heard of the interest, I was very keen. It’s a huge club. I’ve watched them in past and want to be a part of it now and kick on.”

Horvath is a 28-year-old American international, who has nine caps for his country, and has been at the City Ground since July 2021, but has featured only 11 times for the club.

He spent last season on loan at Luton, and played 44 times as the Hatters won promotion to the Premier League.

“He is an international player with the USA and got promoted from the Championship with Luton Town and Nottingham Forest,” said Bulut.

“He knows the league and that is important for a goalkeeper. Right now, with Jak Alnwick and Horvath, we have two great goalkeepers.

“It’s important, you cannot only have loan players. You have to sign permanent players. I think the next few years, the goal is safe here at Cardiff City.”

England U21 international Wilson-Esbrand spent the first half of the season on loan at Ligue 1 side Reims, where he made 11 appearances and scored one goal. The defender has made three first team appearances for Manchester City.

Swansea City were less busy but still managed deadline day moves for Arsenal forward Charles Sagoe Jr, on loan, and Norwich City’s Przemyslaw Placheta.

Polish winger Placheta completed a permanent move. The 25-year-old has seven caps for his country and made 45 appearances for the Canaries after joining them in 2020.

Swansea’s Kristian Pedersen has signed on for Sheffield Wednesday on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The former Birmingham defender joined the Swans from Cologne in the summer, but made just five appearances.

Swans defender Harry Jones has joined Weymouth of the National League South on loan for the rest of the season.

Zane Myers, meanwhile, has left the club by mutual consent.

Two key Wales players for manager Rob Page also made moved from the Premier League to the Championship, in search of more game time.

Bournemouth striker Kieffer Moore joined Championship promotion hopefuls Ipswich Town on loan for the rest of the season.

The 31-year-old played for the Tractor Boys between 2017 and 2018, but made just 11 League appearances.

“I remember my first spell here and I’ve gone away and worked very hard on myself during that time, so I’m delighted to be back and can’t wait to get going,” Moore said.

Burnley have loaned Wales international defender Connor Roberts to Leeds United for the rest of the season.

The 28-year-old joined the Clarets from Swansea in 2021 and played 43 times as they won the Championship last season.

He made eight Premier League starts this season – but the last of those was on October 21.
