Alfie Mawson Reveals Doubts Over Swans' Deal For Renato Sanches

Alfie Mawson has revealed he and other Swansea City players had their doubts that Renato Sanches would arrive at the club. Manager Paul Clement pulled off one of the most audacious signings of last month’s transfer window when he captured Bayern Munich midfielder Sanches in a one-year loan deal. It was a move that appeared unlikely at the outset, even when heavy betting on the switch for the 20-year-old Portugal star began to take place in the days leading up to last week’s transfer deadline.

Stand By Ben Woodburn, Or Put Him Back On The Bench Is The Choice For Chris Coleman

Chris Coleman has a “Stand By Me” choice to make over Ben Woodburn after the teenager’s dramatic breakthrough moment for Wales. Woodburn sang the classic Ben E King song as part of his initiation ceremony within the Wales squad before the 17-year-old fired the winner against Austria 261 seconds into his international debut on Saturday night. Now, Coleman must decide whether or not to promote Woodburn from the substitute’s bench and start with the youngster, who has re-ignited his country’s World Cup campaign, in Moldova on Tuesday night.

Thank God It's Friday Should Be The Pro14 Mantra

The Guinness Pro 14 kicked off on Friday night – and then spread into Saturday, when every other oval and round ball game was providing an alternative. Geraint Powell says it doesn’t have to be like this. The question of the optimal kick-off time in which to play Welsh regional rugby has once again been brought into stark focus on this opening weekend of the new Guinness Pro 14 season. Obviously, official attendances have to be taken with a pinch of salt. As many will already know, the market practice is to use a “tickets out” basis and this will include all free tickets handed out to corporate sponsors and all season ticket holders – whether in actual attendance or not. Some were querying the wisdom of all four Welsh regions playing at home on the opening

Ben Woodburn Goes Sleepless In Cardiff After Waking Up Wales

Ben Woodburn was expecting a sleepless Saturday night after scoring the goal that has reinvigorated Wales’ World Cup campaign. The 17-year-old said he felt “over the moon” after handing last year’s European Championship semi-finalists a vital 1-0 win at home to Austria. The hosts had to wait until 16 minutes from time to finally breach the Austrian defence and it was the raw teenage substitute who fired in a wonderful strike to boost their chances of qualifying for next year’s World Cup in Russia from Group D.
