Jim Botham Back For Cardiff As Ponty Plot 135-year Revenge

Jim Botham will get back into action for the first time since undergoing ankle surgery when he plays for Cardiff in their Principality Premiership clash with Pontypridd at Sardis Road on Saturday. It’s the final round of fixtures in the East and West Divisions and the game will be shown live on S4C (kick-off 5.00pm). The two regional leagues of eight clubs will come together in one division for the second half of the season to determine which club wins the title. Pontypridd can still top the East Division if they beat the Blue & Blacks and reigning champions Merthyr slip-up at home against bottom-of-table Bargoed. The Ironmen currently hold a one point lead.

Wales Fall Behind Scotland . . . At The Bookies And In Momentum

The Six Nations is looming and Wales are preparing for unfamiliar underdog status compared to Scotland. The latest betting has Wales at 12-1 to win the title, with Scots at the shorter odds of 11-1. Peter Jackson considers two teams heading in different directions. Gregor Townsend last appeared in Cardiff on Six Nations business a long time ago, helping Scotland beat Wales in a duel for fourth and fifth place. He will be back in the New Year in circumstances very different to those of April 2002 when the most anti-climactic of finishes would have left Wales lumbered with the Wooden Spoon had Italy not beaten them to it by losing all five matches.
