Meet Matt Edmonds . . . The Newport Running Man With A Fighter’s Heart

If it comes down to a scrap over the final few miles of the ABP Newport Wales Marathon on Sunday, then there will be only one winner if Matt Edmonds is still in the mix. The 34-year-old Mickey Morris Racing Club athlete is the fastest man in the near 6,000 field and will certainly have good local knowledge of the course – he lives on Traston Road, in Lliswerry, and will run past his front door at the 21 mile mark. But what makes Edmonds one of the stand-out candidates for the first title is his sporting pedigree. As well as boasting a marathon best of 2:33.30 in Dublin last year, he twice represented Wales at the Commonwealth Games in the boxing ring.

Evans Determined To Fight Back In Argentina

By his own admission, Elfyn Evans had a difficult opening day on the Rally of Argentina. The 29-year old from Dolgellau was hoping that running tenth on the road would give him an advantage on the gravel stages, but that wasn’t the case as he and co-driver Daniel Barritt struggled to find the perfect rhythm through Argentina’s demanding terrain. Second fastest time on SS5 showed what is possible when everything clicks, and having finished day one in ninth position, the M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC driver is determined to climb up the leader board and get back into his stride as the event continues over the weekend.

Allen Clarke Says He’s In A Hurry To Take The Ospreys Back To The Top

The Ospreys’ derby clash against Cardiff Blues as one half of Judgement Day will offer a chance for revenge for last season as well as an early judgement on the work of Allen Clarke. Graham Thomas looks at the Ospreys’ new permanent head coach, his signing of George North, and the course they have set as they bid to recover their status as Wales’ top region. The first striking thing about Allen Clarke – newly confirmed as the Ospreys’ permanent head coach – is his size, or lack of. The record books listed him as on the small side of scales when it comes to hookers who played international rugby, with a fighting weight of only 14 stones, packed into a 5ft 9in frame.

Day Dream Turns Into Nightmare As Ryan Crashes Out At The Crucible

Ryan Day’s dreams of becoming world snooker champion have been shattered for another year after suffering a Crucible nightmare. The Welshman looked well set to complete a first-round win over Anthony McGill, having consolidated his 6-3 overnight lead into an 8-5 advantage at the mid-session interval on Thursday. But as the Scot gradually fought his way back into the match, Day became increasingly edgy – a far cry from the previous evening, which had seen him compile breaks of 141 and a tournament-high 145. McGill was far from his free-flowing best himself, but still managed to level at 8-8, and the m

The rally project has received title sponsorship from Carmarthen-based engineering firm HT Installations, with additional support from Network Q, Speedline Corse wheels and Pirelli tyres.
