Former Wales prop Craig Mitchell has resurfaced at Gallagher Premiership club Newcastle Falcons. The tight-head spent last season at Yorkshire Carnegie in the English Championship after spells at both the Dragons and the Cardiff Blues which appeared to suggest his career was in decline.But Mitchell has impressed the Falcons playing for their reserve side in recent weeks and director of rugby Dean Richards has opted to hand the 32-year-old a three-month deal.

World Class Entry Received For Wales Rally GB

Next month’s Dayinsure Wales Rally GB (4-7 October) will feature a star-studded line-up after the event organiser, International Motor Sports, confirmed it has received a world class entry for Britain’s round of the FIA World Rally Championship. Entries closed late last week, with an outstanding field of 60 International cars representing 19 nations lining up to compete against-the-clock on an exciting new-look route featuring 23 gruelling special stages. The entry list is topped by the world championship winning M-Sport Ford World Rally Team starring last year’s winner Elfyn Evans and also includes another Welsh driver, Matt Edwards. This year’s eagerly-awaited Wales Rally GB also features the final two rounds of the Prestone MSA British Rally Championship – a title race which Edwards is hoping to win in Wales having dominated the 2018 series to date.

Jake Hapgood Will Take Feelgood Factor To Conwy As Wales Battle Home Nations

Jake Hapgood will bid to continue his rich run of form when he lines-up for Wales against England, Ireland and Scotland at golf’s Home International Championship for the Raymond Trophy on Wednesday. Hapgood – who led the way for Wales at the recent World Amateur Team Championships in Ireland – is part of the 11-man Welsh team, along with Ben Chamberlain and Tom Williams. That trio tied 18th out of 72 nations at for the Eisenhower Trophy at the Carton House course, where Hapgood had the best individual score, finishing 8-under over the four rounds.

Steve Wood won the Wexford Volkswagen Stages Rally for a third time in a row, leading home a magnificent 1-2-3 podium lockout for Welsh drivers on the popular Irish event. Co-driven by Keith Moriarty, Wood won the two-day, 15 stage, rally by 41.7 seconds after an impressive drive in his Subaru Impreza WRC S11. Gossage Powers To Ironman Wales Hat-Trick In Tenby

Lucy Gossage made it a hat-trick of Ironman Wales titles as she successfully defended her women’s crown in Tenby. The British triathlete finished 15th overall in 9 hours, 52 minutes, 37 seconds, her second fastest time in the event. A year ago she won in 10:11.20 and in 2013 she triumphed in 09:51.21 as she finished ninth overall.

Table Tennis Wales carried out a good dry run ahead of hosting the European Veterans Championships in 2021 by successfully staging the Home Nations Vets tournament at the weekend. It proved to be a profitable competition for the Wales national coach Ryan Jenkins as he captured three gold medals on his debut in the Over 40 category. Josh Lewis Set For Dragons’ Date With Johnny Sexton . . . Their First for Seven Years

Josh Lewis aims to go from the ridiculous to the sublime this week and the rare privilege of a meeting with Johnny Sexton. Dragons outside-half Lewis scored the vital try and kicked three conversions and two penalties at the weekend to earn his region their first Guinness Pro 14 victory in almost a year as they held on to beat the Southern Kings, 27-22. The ridicule, though, was all too close for the Dragons, who threw away a 17-0 lead and were hanging on against opponents who are yet to win away from home since joining the tournament.
