Beating The South Has To Become A Habit, Not A Freak, Says Neil Jenkins

Wales’ victory over Australia in Tokyo at the weekend was only their second in 12 games against Rugby Championship sides at the Rugby World Cup, but Neil Jenkins insists there are now more to come. You had to go back to the bronze final of 1987 for the last time Wales had beaten one of the southern hemisphere giants, and that was also against the Wallabies. The 22-21 triumph in Rotorua was the first of seven clashes to date on the global stage against the Aussies and they now lead 5-2. When you take into consideration all the results at the World Cup between Six Nations and Rugby Championship nations (Italy results from 2000 and Argentina since 2012) it makes for pretty grim reading.

Leah Wilkinson looks set to finally make her Great Britain women’s hockey debut today (Tuesday) – after taking a mere 15 years and 169 caps for Wales to convince them she is worthy of her chance. The Wales captain – who is the most capped Welsh team sport athlete of all time – is poised to make her first appearance for GB against India at Bisham Abbey, near Maidenhead. It has taken the 33-year-old a long time to get there – she made her Wales debut against Ireland way back in 2004 – but good things come to those who wait.

Morris Impresses, But Misses Out On Pro-Am Podium

Bentley Continental GT3 racer Seb Morris produced an expectedly strong and competitive showing on his return to Blancpain Endurance Cup action with Team Parker Racing at the Circuit de Barcelona last weekend to just miss out on a deserved Pro-Am podium. Finishing the three-hour championship finale fourth in class, and just outside the overall top 20, Wrexham-born Morris and team-mate Derek Pierce put together an impressive race to bring a positive end to an otherwise largely frustrating and luckless campaign. In terms of pace, 23-year old Morris was as rapid as ever in the No.31 Bentley Continental GT3 and was the third fastest of the eight Bentley drivers in qualifying. Scorching to the fastest Pro-Am time in his session, in the race professional driver Morris managed to get into the class lead before amateur pilot Pierce slipped down the order and finished fourth.

Borja Baston Insists He’s Not Interested In Topping The Goals Table . . . Only The Real Table

Borja Baston insists leading the way as the Championship’s top scorer means nothing to him if Swansea slip down the table. The Spanish striker scored his sixth goal of the season in the 1-1 draw at home to Reading at the weekend and led the scoring charts for the division on Saturday night. Ollie Watkins’ hat-trick for Brentford in their 3-1 win at Barnsley on Sunday took him above Borja on seven, but topping the individual ladder is of no interest to the Swans striker if his team don’t recover their winning momentum.

Rhys Patchell has praised Dan Biggar’s bravery and competitive spirit for setting the tone during Wales’ stunning World Cup victory over Australia. It was Patchell who came off the bench to kick 14 points in the hugely significant 29-25 World Cup win in Tokyo, but the Scarlets star revealed it is his rival for the No.10 shirt who sets a high bar in terms of his will to win. “Dan is awesome,” said Patchell about Biggar, who was taken off for a head injury assessment (HIA) after a try-saving tackle on Australia centre Samu Kerevi.

Impressive Leandro Alters Bluebirds Midfield Opinion

Dutch ace Leandro Bacuna is making me rethink my views on Cardiff City’s midfield unit. Lee Tomlin’s commitment to the Bluebirds, the clear hunger to regain top fitness plus his undoubted playmaking quality led me to believe he must start. Now Bacuna has turned my head. Fit-again Marlon Pack’s presence in midfield allows Bacuna to […]

Steve Cooper Says Referees Are Clipping Swans’ Wings

Steve Cooper has claimed Swansea City’s promotion progress is being undermined by poor officiating. For the second successive week, the Swans manager has claimed mistakes by referees have cost his team, although they remain second in the Championship table after their 1-1 draw at home to Reading on Saturday. A week ago, Cooper suggested there were errors which counted against his side in their goalless draw at Bristol City and it was a familiar theme against the Royals.
