Job Done For Wales . . . Now Time To Rest The Weary And Prepare For France

Mission number one accomplished – Wales are in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, and with a game to spare into the bargain, after hard fought victories over Australia and Fiji following an easier one against Georgia. It remains to be seen who their opponents are, but it will be regular Six Nations opponents – either England or France depending on the outcome of their clash on Saturday. France are the most likely unless they can beat England this weekend – something they have not managed to do outside of Paris for eight years.

Warren Gatland has admitted his players have been left all shook up by Fiji and that some will find themselves in unfamiliar positions when they come back down to ground for their final World Cup pool match in Japan. The Wales coach says he will be forced to pick some of his squad out of position against Uruguay as Gatland’s team paid a painful price for progress into the quarter-finals. Dan Biggar, Josh Adams and Jonathan Davies were all injured against the Fijians who gave Wales a scoreboard fright as well as a physical one before they were finally suued, 29-17.

Dean Keates Insists Dragons Can Fire Despite Low Key Start To Second Spell

Dean Keates believes he can utilise the experience of his Wrexham squad to pull them away from the relegation zone – despite starting his second spell in charge with a draw. The reinstated Wrexham manager was hoping for a winning return at the Racecourse Ground, but had to settle for a cruel 1-1 draw against a physical Harrogate side. Bobby Grant scored the first goal for Wrexham just five minutes in, but a costly missed penalty by the midfielder meant he failed to kill the game off.

Rabbi Happy With German Adventure After Jadon Sancho Paved The Way

Rabbi Matondo insists he was not inspired by Jadon Sancho to try his luck in German football – but the success of his old Manchester City clubmate certainly helped. Born in Liverpool, but raised in Cardiff, Matondo is bidding to win his fourth cap in Slovakia on Thursday night and play only his second senior match of the season. It’s not easy holding down a starting place at Schalke 04 in Germany and Matondo has only made one Bundesliga appearance so far this season.

We’re Back In The Old (1-0) Routine, Says Jayne Ludlow

Jayne Ludlow insisted Wales are back in the old routine after Rachel Rowe’s goal rekindled hopes of qualification for the Women’s Euro 2021 finals. A vital 1-0 win away in Belarus has put Wales in second place in Group C, just two points behind leaders Norway, who thrashed the Faroe Island 13-0 and have now scored an incredible 26 goals in just three qualification matches. There was no such goal feast for Wales in Borisov, but single goal victories are the currency Wales deal in  – there were four of them in their last campaign – and Ludlow could not have been more pleased with a crucial return to her team’s old strengths of tight defending and alertness when a chance comes their way.

No Medals Allowed, But Cardiff Women Show English Clubs How It’s Done

Cardiff Athletic Club women’s team finished first at the English National Combined Autumn Road Relays in Birmingham at the weekend. Although teams from outside England were allowed to compete in this year’s event, they could not win championship medals, meaning the second placed Tonbridge AC team picked up gold. However, Cardiff were the undisputed fastest team on the day as their powerful line-up of four Welsh internationals finished a shade under two minutes ahead of their closest rivals in a field of more than 60 clubs drawn from around the country.

Any Which Way For Jayne Ludlow As Wales Seek Euro Recovery In Belarus

Jayne Ludlow insists she will be happy with a narrow victory in Belarus this evening as Wales bid to get their Euro 2021 qualifying campaign back on track. The Wales manager will be hoping for a positive result to make up for the points dropped in the recent 2-2 home draw with Northern Ireland. Belarus were thumped 7-1 by powerful Group C leaders Norway in their last match, but Ludlow says any kind of win in Borisov will be mission accomplished.
