Wayne Pivac says ending his disappointing first Six Nations campaign as Wales coach with a resounding win over Scotland next weekend is a “no brainer” following the 33-30 defeat by England on Saturday. The New Zealander has seen his side slip to three successive defeats – after opening with a 42-0 whitewash of hapless Italy – for the first time since the 2007 Six Nations. That dismal run came just before his compatriot Warren Gatland took over and enjoyed a highly successful 12-year tenure.

Wales have selected their first-ever Masters Rugby League squad, who will compete against England and Ireland in a Tri-Nations Day in Bethesda on Saturday 16th May. Masters Rugby League is played by people aged 35 and over with the rules being slightly modified to cater for the older player.

Wales hockey ace Rupert Shipperley has been offered a full-time place in Great Britain’s men’s programme in the lead-up to this summer Tokyo Olympics. The Hampstead & Westminster player had been training with the team in the latter part of 2019 before being called up to the squad for the first time and featuring in all four FIH Hockey Pro League games against Australia and New Zealand last month.

Dozens of Welsh youngsters will be heading to across the border to take part in the Virgin Money Giving London Mini Marathon on April 26. While the likes of Natasha Cockram and Josh Griffiths take part in the main Virgin Money London Marathon, a 36-strong team of Welsh teenagers will compete in the mini version. Boys and girls teams of six – plus with two reserves – have been selected to represent Wales in each of the Under-13, under-15 and under-17 categories, thanks to their performances at the recent Welsh Cross Country Championships in Pembrey.

Eddie Jones has said England “owe Wales one” after their painful defeat in Cardiff last year as they prepare for Saturday’s resumption of old rivalries at Twickenham. France are the only team left in the Six Nations who can complete a Grand Slam but England could yet be crowned champions if Les Bleus stumble in the final two rounds. For Wales, it is about preventing a third straight defeat after losing to Ireland and France, but they do have the confidence of last season’s 21-13 victory in Cardiff on the way to their own Grand Slam.

After the Six Nations admitted nothing was off the table – including big bags of cash – when it comes to negotiating the next TV deal for the tournament from 2022, Robin Davey says the pay back would be unacceptable. For every pound gained, there would be a future follower lost. Surely not! The number of women and girls playing football in Wales has hit a new high. Participation levels have grown 50 per cent since 2016 and the FAW Trust says a record 8,600 women and girls are now signed up to football clubs in Wales. The news comes as the FAW Trust gears up to expand its Huddle programme which was launched last year and for 5-12 year olds.
